River Deele.

Dull with occasional showers.

The river has a path half-way up the bank, which means that a lot of insects are at head height. Very handy for photographs.

This quite large (15 mm.) Weevil  - Liophloeus tesselatus - was numerous on Hogweed leaves. The larvae eat the roots of various Umbellifers.

My first Bibio of the year - a male. Not a very good pic, though.

These tiny (4 mm wingspan) Moth-flies (Psychodidae) taxi around at high speed on the leaves.

An Empid Fly. You can see its long proboscis which is used to suck nourishment from its victims.

Of all the birds eggs that I find abandoned, it's Starling eggs that are usually entire.
