River Deele.
Dull with occasional showers. |
The river has a path half-way up the bank, which means that a lot of
insects are at head height. Very handy for photographs.
This quite large (15 mm.) Weevil - Liophloeus tesselatus - was numerous on Hogweed leaves. The larvae eat the roots of various Umbellifers. |
My first Bibio of the year - a male. Not a very good pic, though. |
These tiny (4 mm wingspan) Moth-flies (Psychodidae) taxi around at high speed on the leaves. |
An Empid Fly. You can see its long proboscis which is used to suck nourishment from its victims.
|
Of all the birds eggs that I find abandoned, it's Starling eggs that are usually entire. |
