Fringe of coniferous forestry.

6 x Orange Tip male, 2 x Orange Tip female, 8 x Green-veined White, 2 x Speckled Wood.

Dry with sunny spells.

Nice to see a 'real' mushroom at this time of year. Agrocybe praecox.

These Micropterix calthella micromoths certainly like Buttercup pollen.

Another Cheilosia hoverfly (or maybe the same species as last time).

This weevil tried the usual 'Oh look, I've fallen over dead' routine, but the bristles on the leaf prevented it from rolling over. I wonder if beetles can feel embarrassed.

A terrible picture of Grapholita jungiella - a new (6mm.) micromoth for the site, and also a first record for Co. Donegal.

It was rather chilly and that enabled me to get a front shot of this Green-veined White. In warmer weather most insects turn their back on a lens, presumably to give a clear escape route.

I'm quite pleased to get this nice pair of Orange Tips - male on the left and female on the right.

At first I thought Lochmaea caprea, but it isn't that. Same size - about 6 mm long.

Rhingia campestris - the first of many appearances by this hoverfly species this year.

A tiny (6mm across the cap) Mycena.

A couple of shots of Argyra leucocephala - one of the Dolichopodidae, or Thick-headed Flies. The wing veination is very clear. (See what I mean about them turning away?)
