High Heath.

Cloudy and sticky.

I wonder if anyone can id beetles from their shadow.

This is quite interesting: a dual-headed Ribwort Plantain. Perhaps it was damaged early in its development. The stem was quite normal.

Lesser Spearwort has opened in ditches and ponds.

The next stage in Orange Tip larval development. This is about 8mm long.

And a male Orange Tip settled down for the night. These have almost passed their season, now.

This is a fascinating micromoth. Schreckensteinia festaliella holds its very spiked rear legs in a sideways position when landed.

New county record for Donegal.

A tiny (8mm) solitary bee on Smooth Hawksbeard. The bee uses all of the underside of its abdomen as a pollen collector.

Lassioglossum sp.

I opened the spun top leaves of Eared Willow and found this 1 cm. larva. July High-flyer - Hydriomena furcata.

The midges were eating me alive, so I thought I'd show yet another tiny part of Donegal's wildlife. Midge about 2mm. long.

About 2 seconds after this shot was taken the midge was less than 0.5mm high.
