Waste land in town.

Sunny and hot, with a little rain later.

Up to a couple of years ago, Small Tortoiseshell butterflies were quite scarce on the patch. In 2004 I saw a single specimen the whole year. This year the second brood is very numerous...I'm seeing many each time I'm out. This image has 5: one on the Buddleia and four on the wall.

This little (9mm.) Capsid is also very common at the moment. The second shot shows the proboscis which is used to suck nectar and other plant juices. Lygocoris pabulinus.

Another (and better) shot of the green Soldier Fly that is quite numerous at the moment. About 12mm long.

Syritta pipiens is one of our smaller Hoverflies, usually less than a centimetre long. I've discussed the inflated thighs before.

Thistledown already.

A little mystery. A leaf-miner on a hairy Cerastium of some kind (no flowers, yet. And the way the miner is going about its business there won't be any). Maybe Amauromyza flavifrons.
