Local lawn.

On September 13th I speculated that a particular Beech tree in this location was in danger. It fell down in last night's storm.

Bright early, rain later.

Of the bright yellow Waxcaps, this comes out closest to Hygrocybe chlorophana. The yellow has, however, got more than a touch of green in it...

A long-standing identification problem resolved. This is another Waxcap - Hygrocybe irrigata.

The strange twisted stipe is a good identification clue.

While I was down taking the mushroom shots, I supported my hand on a fallen Beech leaf. Suddenly I got a stabbing pain in my finger. I lifted the leaf and this little bumblebee was revealed. Note that the middle legs are raised in a defensive posture. Fortunately for the bee the stings are not barbed. Unfortunately for me the sting has a toxin. Ouch!

Later, when walking the dogs in the rain. A leaf-miner on Alder: it belongs to the micromoth Phyllonorycter rajella.
