More from the Fungal Foray to Errigal Glen, Garvagh, NI.

Torrential rain with severe flooding.

These spherical galls on Oak are caused by the wasp Andricus kollari. The eggs are laid on leaf buds and usually occur near the branch. I suppose if the eggs are laid late then they could end up on the leaves instead.

Common Catsear is very variable. This specimen is quite different from my local specimens, having smoother leaves with more prominent lobes. Stems branched to about 30cm. tall.

A new plant from the verge near the carpark. Equal-leaved Knotgrass - Polygonum arenastrum.
