These spherical galls on Oak are caused by the wasp Andricus kollari. The eggs are laid on leaf buds and usually occur near the branch. I suppose if the eggs are laid late then they could end up on the leaves instead. |
Common Catsear is very variable. This specimen is quite different from my local specimens, having smoother leaves with more prominent lobes. Stems branched to about 30cm. tall.
