Ditch in original Hedgerow, leg 1.

Dry with a cold wind.

Every time I check this ditch I'm finding more liverworts and mosses. Whilst examining photographs of the two liverworts in this shot, I noticed a third specimen just out of focus, lower left. I'll have to go back again.

Mystery specimen now identified as Plagyomnium undulatum. See Feb 25th.

This Conocephalum conicum liverwort has a male fruiting structure on it. The thallus reminds me of reptile skin, which is indicative of Conocephalum.

Another new moss for the site: Bryum capillare. The Bryum family is very tricky, but this one checks out very close. The photomicrograph shows the long cells in the thick outer border to the leaf. Bryum rosette about 7mm across.

Close-up at x40.

Opposite-leaved Golden Saxifrage has opened at last.

And leaves of the Meadow Buttercup - Ranunculus acris - are showing well.

An opportunistic shot of a Lesser Dungfly on the bonnet of my car.
