2nd January

High Heath.

Sunny periods.

This is the second year growth of Gloeophyllum sepiarium - a Scandinavian fungus that is making an appearance at lower latitudes. The new growth is the orange/red portion. (I wonder who took a sample last year?)

A close-up of the pores is very interesting.

Broom has been busy making new growth over the winter.

I thought I'd check the Knapweed seedheads for Tephritid larvae. Most of the seedheads are gone, but a high percentage of the remainder seem to have a resident fly larva, any of which may be carrying a still-dormant Ichneumonid egg.)
