Highest local point.

Mostly dull with storms later.

This sets the scene. The area was deep coniferous forestry until about 6 years ago. After harvesting the land has been replanted with Japanese Larch and more Spruce/Fir. There are remnants of the earlier forestry in the left distance, and a few Willows in the foreground. The occasional log pile is good for fungi. Lough Swilly in the far distance.

This image shows the unusual mixed nature of the new planting. Japanese Larch (the rust-coloured patches in the middle distance), Spruce or Fir (glaucus, foreground) and Beech (front). The planting is in very narrow strips, perhaps 10 trees wide. I certainly welcome the deciduous trees, which will encourage plenty of insects and fungi.

One or two Brambles are continuing to produce flowers.

Common Ragwort is still flowering on last year's growth.
