15th March

Original Hedgerow, leg 1.

Wet, with a late dryish spell.

On March 8th I showed Fissidens cristatus - a fan-shaped moss. I took a sample for further analysis and found a tiny capsule:

The capsule is about 2mm. tall and was barely visible to my naked eye.

Just to complicate things, the leaves directly behind the capsule belong to Bryum capillare. Moss identification is made complex due to the fact that they often grow through each other. One has to be absolutely certain that a capsule actually belongs to the specimen under investigation.
