14th May |
Clear-felled Heath.
Frequent showers. |
Willow Flowers have now set seed and the white downy parachutes carpet the ground. |
I've often mentioned that Orange Tip larvae are cannibals, so the females normally lay only one egg on each flower-head. As their season draws to a close (already!) suitable flowers become harder to find and I sometimes notice a frantic abandonment of eggs. This flowerhead has 9 visible eggs on it. |
The first Red Clover of the year, and just opening. |
A Leech crossed the path in front of us. It varied from 5 cm. to 10 cm. long as it moved. |
This Pipistrelle flew down our chimney. It's interesting to see that the eyes are placed directly under the ears. I suppose that's to facilitate the hand-over from sonar to vision. |
