20th April |
Original Hedgerow. Mostly sunny, but still cool and windy. No butterflies, but plenty of other insects in evidence - it's amazing what a little bit of sun can do. |
Firstly, a (male) copper-coloured hoverfly on a Dandelion. Melanostoma
scalare.
|
This is another male hoverfly - Eristalis intricarius - sitting on Celandine leaves. |
I was trying for a picture of a ladybird when I spotted this tiny beetle on the Cow Parsley. It's about 4mm long. |
Those of you who know Chickweed will know the size of this flower. It's about 5 mm across. |
Lastly for today, another in my series of insect's-eye views: This time of the Lesser Celandine.
