1st June |
Highest local point - Mongorrey.
Showery, but dry later. |
Another, slightly better, shot of the bronze Chrysomelid that is all over the willows at the moment. About 3mm long. |
Heath Bedstraw - Galium saxatile - has opened, spreading its sweet, sickly smell. |
Another Cortinarius, perhaps even the same one as a couple of days ago. They're about 500m apart as the spore flies.
|
The frog tadpoles are about 3 cm long now. Time for the legs to appear. |
Northern Marsh Orchid - Dactylorhiza purpurella - has opened. The plants are very small this year and the flower spikes are correspondingly short. I'd say they're not 40% of their usual size. It looks like the other Dactylorhizas are similarly dwarfed. It must have been the very dry April that has caused the stunting. |
Two (of three) Pied Wagtail chicks that look totally lost (one of the parents was feeding them). Very newly fledged, I'd say. Note the short tail.
