7th June |
Drumboe Wood.
Bright, sunny and hot. |
Another of the Callophoridae - Blow Flies.
|
The Cream-spot Ladybird - Calvia quattuordecimguttata - on Oak, which was a bit unexpected. |
Elderflowers are well out, now. These make a highly-perfumed summer cordial, which is excellent if you like that kind of thing. |
Last week I showed occupied mines of Incurvaria pectinea. They have now been vacated and the larvae will pupate at ground level. |
The focus of this overhead shot is the fly shadow to lower centre. The mine at about 10 o'clock belonged to the Beech Weevil Orchestes fagi. |
A side-shot of Helophilus pendulus - a hoverfly.
|
Larvae of the Celery Leaf Beetle - Phaedon tumidulus - on Hogweed. I was astonished to find this missing from the Species Index. |
A minute Nomada bee about 6mm. long. Nomada flavoguttata, female. |
Unripe seeds of Pignut. Many Umbellifers have seeds that look like beetles, complete with antennae. |
Common Valerian will be open soon. |
Three shots from the very darkest part of the wood. This area has double shade: Beeches and Ash above and a lower area of Birch. The pictures are: a fly gall on Lime, Sanicle and Wood Speedwell.
