Original Hedgerow, leg 2.

 

A gap in between heavy showers.

 

This is one of the Empidiae: Dance-flies or Dagger-flies. About 12mm long, these have a large proboscis that is used to suck juices from their prey. Looks to be Empis stercorea.

My little Orange Tip larva is now about 1 cm. long. Notice that the seedpod has now been eaten and the larva is moving on to the next pod.

 

Foxgloves are all but open. The bumblebees will soon have as much pollen as they can use.
