30th July |
High Heath.
Cloudy with bright spells. |
Another shot of the micromoth Eucosma cana, which I only ever see for around a week in any year. The larvae feed on seeds of thistle or Knapweed. |
A Calliphorid (Blow-fly or Bluebottle). |
One of my little hanging orb spiders. |
A micromoth on Knapweed? Nope...the seed of a nearby grass. It had me fooled long enough to focus and take a shot. |
Some of the Angelica is a strong purple colour in all parts. Other nearby plants are green with white flowers.

I've become intrigued by the little beasts that the Scaeva pyrastri hoverfly was eating the other day. I'm now of the opinion that they're bugs of some sort. Yup. Tingis cardui - the Thistle Lacebug. |
A distant shot of the first Volucella bombylans hoverfly of the year. These are very flighty just after they emerge, and will take a few days to calm down, presumably after they have mated. |
