The first thing I spotted here was the spider hanging under the Hardheads - presumably for shelter from the rain. Then I noticed that the Hardheads itself was a bit odd. On looking around, I saw that the whole plant had these flattened, wide (2 cm.) heads. Other nearby specimens were normal. I've been looking at this picture very carefully for a while, and I think it's a trap. The 'spider' appears to be a Harvestman, and they don't make webs. One leg is held higher than the rest and is possibly a 'trigger' that springs the Harvestman into action.

I didn't expect to find the Common Dog Violet at this time of year, but the books say it sometimes appears, now. So that's ok. |
