High Heath.

Foggy, then bright.

 

This female Ichneumon wasp was laying her eggs into the stem of the Hardheads. There must be a grub living in there. Notice that the tube's sheath is held behind her. Now you can see why her rear legs are so long. Body length from head to tip of abdomen? 8mm. Possibly Scambus brevicornis, a Pimpline Ichneumon.

This is a different Ichneumon species, but still on the Hardheads. You can see that the sheath is, in fact, split in two. This one is also about 8mm. long and is injecting into the top part of the flower, as opposed to the stem. Macrocentrus sp., a Braconid.
