4th September

A trip to the high heath.

Rain interrupted by showers.

These Sawfly larvae were decimating the Alder leaves. Approximately 30% of the leaves were like this.

Fortunately for the Alder, these Ichneumons were on active duty. The specimen on the left is about 12 mm long, with lovely pale blue markings and stripes. The tiny specimen on the right is about 4mm. long. (Thumb included for comparison)

I really, really, really like Ichneumons. If I had another life, I'd devote it to studying them.

Two seedheads, since we're in September. On the left, Corn Spurrey, and Slender St. John's Wort on the right.
