A very early trip to the Hedgerow in order to get the Coprinus before it went over.
Bright, damp and mild. |
This is Coprinus comatus - the Shaggy Ink-cap, or Lawyer's Wig. It starts off as an egg-shaped growth and very quickly opens and then dissolves into an inky mass. I saw it last night and hoped it would be ready today.
Roughly 12 cm. tall. |
Two shots of Ochrolechia parella - a very common lichen in this area. The left-hand image shows the fruiting bodies (around 3mm across), and the right hand image shows an invading lichen that is parasitic upon it.

This is one of the Slime Moulds - an elementary fungus. Specimen shown is about 4 cm across. |
