Daniel Radcliffe, an 11 year old
Londoner has been chosen to play the part of Harry Potter in the film "Harry Potter
and the Philosopher's Stone. Radcliffe was discovered by Columbus who says -
"He was Harry Potter. I couldn't take my eyes off of
him!" Radcliffe
admits that when he heard the news - "I cried...I was so excited about getting the
part."
He attended a recent press conference with fellow newcomers Emma
Watson and Rupert Grint who will be playing the parts of Harry's best friends Hermione
Granger and Ron Weasley.
The entire cast of the film is British to "stay true to the
books roots," according to the director Chris Colombus. The film is currently
being shot on location at Leavesden, with Gloucester
Cathedral doubling for Hogwarts.
Columbus is filming different versions for American and British audiences as the
book is known as "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" in the States.
All scenes refering to the title's
mysterious stone will be filmed twice and its name
changed accordingly.
The film will be released on the 16 of November 2001 in both America
and England.
