The biggest crowd ever to watch an All-Ireland Hurling
Final was in 1956, when Wexford beat Cork in front of 86,500 people!
- The All-Ireland Hurling Final was only twice played
outside of Dublin,
in Killarney in 1937 and in Thurles in 1984.
- The most anyone has ever scored in an All-Ireland Final
is 2-12, scored by Nicky English of Tipperary in 1989 against Antrim.

- The most scored in one match by a team was 7-31, scored
by Kilkenny against
Westmeath in 1982.
- Up until 1898, hurling was a 21-a-side game and until
1908, it was a 17-a-side game. It was only then it became a 15-a-side game.
- Up until 1971, if you played hurling, you could not play
any other sport!
- Long ago,
a sliothar was twice as heavy as it is now!

- A former Prime Minister (Taoiseach) of Ireland,
Jack Lynch, won 5 All-Ireland Hurling medals, as well as an All-Ireland medal in Gaelic
Football.
- Only one hurler ever has won All-Ireland medals
with two different counties - Mick Gill. He won
with Galway in 1923 and the following
year, he secured a second medal playing for Dublin.
