Course Options
The following are the course options for full-time students:
- 3 yr. Acting, Musical Theatre, Film, Radio and TV Diploma (Complete Option)
- 3 yr. Acting Diploma
- 3 yr. Musical Theatre Diploma (Acting Option)
- 1 yr. Musical Theatre
Course Components
Acting
A broad range of acting styles are taught from Method Acting, Stage Musicals, classical to acting for Film, Radio and TV. Students are given in-depth knowledge and all the necessary information on the use of techniques for the professional theatre.
Vocal Training
Awareness of the various components of the voice and how it works. Breathing, resonance, tone, articulation, speech faults, developing an understanding and control of vocal techniques for use on performance.
Drama and History of Theatre
Studying the growth of Irish, European and American Theatre, and the changes in style over time. Play analysis, understanding of various texts and scripts.
Career Preparation
Covering Agents, Casting Directors, Actors, Equity, CV's, Portfolios, photographs, and personal taxation.
Audition Technique
Pieces are selected and worked on intensively to prepare for professional Auditions and Video CV's.
Theatre Co.
Students observe a professional Theatre Company at work. Details are given of Arts structures and funding resources. Preparation for this starts very early and students take on all roles of production through to performance over course.
Dialect & Phonetics
Analysis of sounds and structures, relating to the content of local, regional and international accents, voice over training.
Singing
Covering rhythm, sight-reading, chorus work, character songs, history of music. Emphasis on getting the best from whatever voice the student may have.
Movement Observation
Intensive work is done to develop an understanding of the body's movement allowing freedom and control of the body as an expressive instrument, broadening the actor's movement repertoire - giving the opportunity to go one step further in the physical expression of creative dynamics and characters.
Alexander Technique
Relaxation, correcting body alignment, opening the joints and making the body supple.
Mime
A study of gesture, rhythm and energy on stage.
Dance
Covering Jazz, Modern, Tap, Hip Hop, and Contemporary, providing students with discipline, rhythm and co-ordination. Ballroom and Latin-American - emphasis on partner work.
Street Theatre
Techniques - skills are taught in stilt-walking, juggling and clowning.
