Kilbarrack Utd    1 v 0    Inchicore FC

Line up : Carl Laffan, Robbie Kennedy, Keith Marshall, Paddy Dunne, Gerard Marshall, Gary Donovan, Sean Blake, Karl Cogan, Robbie Shaw, Stephen Kennedy, Graham Henderson.  Subs : Stephen Walsh, Tommy Dochetry.

The new season Kicked off at the weekend with an unlucky away defeat to a well organised Killbarack side.  One of the favorites for the league title this year Kilbarrack started well but keeper Carl Laffan denied the home side twice in the opening quarter of the game.  Some wonderful defending from Keith Marshall and a nasty cut to Paddy Dunnes  head kept the score at 0-0.  However, with the first half drawing to a close Kilbarracks tricky centre forward sprung the Inchicore off-side trap and slipped a neat finish under the goalkeepers legs.  Looking dead and buried at half time Inchicore came out all guns blazing in the second half determined not to concede another and maybe grab an equaliser.  Halfway through the second half manager Gerard O'Looney switched Gary Donovan to the left wing and it almost paid off straight away.  Donovan beat his man neatly then put the ball beyond the outstretched keeper only to see it rebound off the inside of the goal post back into the keepers hands.  That was as close as Inchicore would come to scoring and the match played out the final minutes with neither side threatening after that unlucky moment.

Inchicore FC    1 v 3    Sheriff YC

Line up : Carl Laffan, Gary Turner, Keith Marshall, Paddy Dunne, Gerard Marshall, Gary Donovan, Sean Blake, Karl Cogan, Glenn Johnson, Stephen Walsh, Graham Henderson.  Subs : Barry Greene, Mark Hayse, Peter Behan

A bad day at the office in the end for Inchicore after a first half display that promised so much.  Paddy Dunne rose highest at the back post to give Inchicore the lead mid way through the first half after holding off all that Sheriff could throw at them.  Even when Sheriff were awarded a dubious penalty things were going well when the spot kick was missed.  However Inchicores' luck didn't last.  Gerard Marshall tried to block a shot but the wicked deflection sent the ball past the keeper who had already gone the wrong way.  Things got worse after that when Karl Cogan lashed out and was shown a straight red.  Inchicore dug deep and defended for all they were worth until the away side finally got the goal they deserved with 15 minutes remaining.  With their heads down Inchicore soon conceded a third and with it the three points to Sheriff.

Inchicore FC    4 v 2    East Wall Wharf

Line up : Carl Laffan, Gary Turner, Keith Marshall, Paddy Dunne, Graham Henderson, Troy Prendergast, Karl Cogan, Sean Blake, Anthony Mahony, Aaron Reynolds, Robbie Kennedy.  Subs : Gary Donovan, Mick Mooney, Barry Greene.

A well deserved victory for Inchicore today after falling behind to a penalty from East Wall after only three minutes of play.  Determined not to go down the road they went down last week Inchicore picked themselves up and got a deserved equaliser through Aaron Reynolds following a long throw from Sean Blake.  Controversy soon followed however, with three East Wall players in an off side position play was allowed to continue as East Wall broke forward to score after the goalkeeper made the initial save.  Just as East Wall where expecting a similar result to last week Keith Marshall stepped up and scored what could be goal of the season.  With nothing on Marshall looked up, saw the keeper off his line and from inside his own half sent a high ball into the air that dropped in over the keeper.  Two each at the break and Inchicore where playing well and mid way through the second half took the lead with Reynolds scoring with a scorching header, something he had been threatening to do all match.  From that moment on Inchicore took control and when Sean Blake added a superb fourth East Wall faded.

Bellurgan    3 v 0    Inchicore FC

Line up : Carl Laffan, Sean Blake, Keith Marshall, Paddy Dunne, Anthony Mahony, Karl Cogan, Troy Prendergast, Aaron Reynolds, Gary Donovan, Glen Johnson, Mick Mooney.  Subs : Gary Turner, Stephen Belleili

Another performance to forget about for Inchicore with three costly errors leading to Bellurgans goals.  Inchicore never got out of first gear today and Bellurgan had the better of the opening exchanges.  With fifteen minutes gone an unlucky bounce off Sean Blakes leg gave a throw to the home side, and with Inchicore in disarray Bellurgan broke to make it one nil.  Having got to the break only one behind Inchicore fancied their chances of grabbing an equaliser but that notion was soon put to rest when a short back pass allowed Bellurgan to grab their second.  Inchicore never threatened after that and when goalkeeper Carl Laffan allowed a free kick to slip under his body the game was well and truly over.

9.11.03, Nivea for Men Cup 3rd round

Inchicore FC 4 v 2 St Pauls Artane

Line up : Jason ?, Peter Behan, Keith Marshall, Gerard O'Looney, Anthony Mahony, Robbie Kennedy, Barry Smith, Karl Cogan, Gary Donovan, Jamie Stears, Graham Henderson.  Subs : Aaron Reynolds, Troy Prendergast, Colin Laffan.

It seems so far this season that Inchicore have become something of a cup team, anyone present at Walkinstown Park this morning can vouch for that.  With an hour on the clock Ger Looneys' side looked dead and buried, but a four goal hall in the last 25 minutes put paid to that notion, the only black mark being Karl Cogans sending off.  Without a victory or a goal to their name in the last two outings Inchicore were looking for a much improved performance today.  For the first half hour of the game they looked like an improved side with a lot of urgency about their play however,  some slack defending allowed a St Pauls player to drift in from the wing unchallened and fire in a 25 yard daisy cutter to the keepers right hand side.  Things went from bad to worse five minutes later when a long clearance from the away side was allowed to bounce in the Inchicore penalty area and the Pauls centre forward nipped in to make it two.  A big decision was taken at half time to move inspirational captain Keith Marshall into midfield and bringing Aaron Reynolds in to partner player manager Ger Looney in the centre of defence.  St Pauls had to withdraw their first choice goalkeeper at half time due to injury but seemed to have the game under control until a moment of madness from the replacement.  Karl Cogan chased down a through ball and seemed to collide with the keeper who then lashed out at the young midfielder with his boot.  The referee had no option but to issue a red to the keeper, it was from this moment that Inchicore took the game to St Pauls.  Barely five minutes had passed when an Anthony Mahony corner had been flicked on and Gary Donovan was on hand to prod home at the back post.  Ten minutes later and Inchicore were level thanks to a scrappy goal that was finished by Keith Marshall.  St Pauls began to tire in the final quarter and Inchicore duly took advantage.  With a free kick awarded 30 yards from goal nobody saw what was going to happen next as Aaron Reynolds stepped up and powered a thunderous effort past the away keeper.  With the game almost over Inchicore squandered a couple of gilt edge chances before Jamie Stears scored his third goal in four games to seal the victory.

23.11.03, Liddy Cup 2nd round

Inchicore FC 0 v 3 Howth

Line up : Carl Laffan, Peter Behan, Paddy Dunne, Aaron Reynolds, Colin Laffan, Troy Prendergast, Barry Smith, Keith Marshall, Gary Donovan, Barry Greene, Sean Blake.  Subs :  Jamie Stears, Anthony Mahony.

Inchicores involvement in this years Liddy Cup came to an end despite turning in their their best performance of the season.  Three moments of madness cost them dearly as they toed the line with the Premier A outfit for the entire length of the match.  Inchicore started the brightest of the two teams putting Howth under a lot of pressure, forcing them into making a lot of basic errors.  All of this pressure failed to create a goal the only chance of note falling to Karl Cogan who was just beaten to the through ball by Howths alert keeper.  Inchicores Carl Laffan had to be alert when he saved well at the feet of the centre forward moments later, the rebound should have been put into the back of the net but Howth wasted a great chance.  It was from this moment that Howth began to take charge with some neat passing upsetting the Inchicore rearguard.  A long ball over the top caught the Inchicore defence out, a rash challenge from Inchicores right full was judged to have been a foul but the referee stunned everyone at Walkinstown Park when he pointed to the spot.  Another penalty conceded and another one that Carl Laffan failed to save.  Things got worse five minutes later when the Howth centre forward turned Aaron Reynolds in the box and beat the keeper at his near post.  Having played so well in the half Inchicore didn't deserve to be two down at the break.  The killer goal came less than five minutes into the second half.  Another long ball over the top caught Inchicore on the hop again, Inchicores keeper failed to win posession at the edge of the box and Howth steered the ball into the back of the net to effectively kill off the game as a contest.  The home side to their credit never gave in and kept Howth scoreless for the remainder of the game.  Gary Donovan got Inchicores first real chance on the hour mark but spurned the opportunity from five yards out.  Inchicore pressed and pressed for a goal and Karl Cogan looked to be shoved from behind and yet again the referee amazed everyone by awarding a free kick to the visiting team.  There were a lot of positives to be taken from the game with the whole team impressing, including the three substitutes.  Hopefully this game will finally kick Inchicores league campaign into gear.

Inchicore FC 3 v 0 Hamilton Utd

Line up: Wizzo, Colin Laffan, Paddy Dunne, Keith Marshall, Peter Behan, Anthony Mahony, Barry Greene, Barry Smith, Stephen Kennedy, Gary Donovan, Aaron Reynolds.  Subs: Troy Prendergast, Jamie Stears, Carl Laffan.

Inchicore came through victorious after a bruising encounter against a nasty Hamilton Utd side.  Despite the victory never being a doubt from the kick off what was mind boggling was that not one Hamilton player was sent off following a series of nasty tackles, one of which left Stephen Kennedy having to be stretchered off after only five minutes of play.  The home side never got involved or retaliated to any of these challenges to their credit and let their football do the talking in what was the most commanding display from Inchicore for a long time.  From the kick off Ger Looneys team came at Hamilton and never let them settle.  The back line was marshaled superbly by Keith Marshall, who has hardly put a foot wrong all season, and the away team found it very difficult to create any chances because of this.  The low point of the half for Inchicore came when the big re-signing Stephen Kennedy had to leave the field of play, very bad refereeing allowed the Hamilton player to remain on the field , however Troy Prendergast stepped in and was immense in the midfield area.  The only real chance of the half came when an Anthony Mahony corner was headed out to Barry Greene, returning from injury, who lobbed the keeper only to be denied by the crossbar.  Aaron Reynolds missed the follow up from six yards with the goal at his mercy but it wouldn't be Inchicores last chance.  The second half started brightly for Inchicore with Paddy Dunne finding himself unmarked three yards out following another delightful Dykey corner, Paddy couldn't miss and the home side took the lead.  Inchicore did proceed to ride their luck after this and a combination of fine goalkeeping from Wizzo, and some poor finishing from the Hamilton strikers kept the score at one nil.  However the best was yet to come.  A free kick was awraded, looked very much like a hand ball inside the box though, and Aran Reynolds shoved everyone aside to take the kick at goal himself.  In a carbon copy of the goal he scored against St Pauls a couple of weeks back Reynolds unleashed an unstoppable drive through the wall to give Inchicore an unassailable two nil lead.  Not content to sit back and settle for this result Ichicore pushed Hamilton for a third and it duly arrived.  A Paddy Dunne floated free kick into the box was met superbly by Aaron Reynolds who rose highest at the back post to score his sixth goal of the season.  Inchicore ran out the final minutes of this game comfortable winners but it was a crucial game to win as it gives us a glimmer of hope to stay in Premier B next season.

Inchicore FC 3 v 2 Neilstown Rangers

Line up: Gareth Byrne, Alan Walsh, Keith Marshall, Paddy Dunne, Barry Greene, Gary Donovan, Stephen Kennedy, Anthony Mahony, Karl Cogan, Barry Smith, Gerard Marshall.  Subs: Mick Mooney

An air of expectancy hung around the Inchicore dressing room before todays match after last weeks battling encounter against league hopefuls Killbarrack United.  As the game kicked off Neilstown were expecting an easy ride against an Inchicore team struggling at the bottom of Premier B.  What they got was a world apart.  From the off Inchicore pressed and after only three minutes of play were rewarded for their pressure.  Ger Marshall, making his comeback from injury, broke down the left and squared a perfect ball into Barry Smith.  Barry failed to win control but the ball broke to Karl Cogan who beat the keeper easily to score his first goal of the season. However the good start to the game was soon undone.  Barely two minutes had passed when a loose ball rebounded into the path of the Neilstown centre forward who pounced to bring his side level.  Inchicore just about shaded the first half after that with no real chances for either side as Inchicore looked forward to the second half with the breeze at their backs.  The second half exploded into life straight away with Gary Donovan receiving a yellow card for a crunching tackle just on halfway.  Suddenly the home team fell asleep as Neilstown put in a superb ball to the back post with the resulting free header leaving keeper Gareth Byrne with no chance.  Ger Looneys team didn't roll over and within five minutes had brought themselves level.  Barry Greene had his free kick blocked, when the ball rebounded Barry raced for the by-line and with his weaker right foot sent in a delightful cross for Paddy Dunne to head home at the back post unmarked.  From that moment on Inchicore looked the strongest side and carved out a couple of openings of their own with Anthony Mahony coming the closest with a delicate lob that the keeper just about dealt with.  The turning point of the game came midway through the half when Neilstowns' influential midfielder recieved his marching orders for a second yellow card after diving in the box.  There was still some defending to be done though and but for some important blocks and resolute defending from the back four the result might not have gone Inchicores way.  With time running out Inchicore were awarded a free kick on the edge of the box.  Anthony Mahony curled in a wonderful ball that struck the crossbar, Gary Donovan however was on hand to prod home what turned out to be the winner from five yards to seal his teams second win of the season.  It was a great game to watch and one that will certainly be talked about long after the season is over, maybe this is where Inchicore begin to turn the tide in Premier B.
