Debating team to go to Germany

The Irish team competing in the 10-day World Schools' Debating Championships will depart tomorrow for Stuttgart, Germany writes John Downes.

It will be captained by Ms Josephine Curry of St Louis School, Monaghan and will meet the reigning champions Australia, as well as Scotland, Peru, Argentina, Bermuda and Slovenia in the first round of the competition.

The Irish team, which is selected following provincial and national trials held in universities throughout the country, won the world title in 2002, and progressed to the quarter-finals last year.

The three other members of the team are: Ms Andrea Mulligan and Ms Sarah Swaine, both of Loreto on the Green, Dublin, and Mr Ross Frenett of Christian Brothers' College, Cork.
