The IWFPS would like to express our sincere appreciation to the Irish Pike Society for all their support. Below is a picture of our P.R.O. Geoff Cooper with Alan Broderick of the IPS on the Pike society's stand at a show in Dublin this weekend. The IPS very kindly placed IWFPS posters on their stand to increase awareness of the society and generate much needed funds.

The IWFPS and the Irish Federation of Pike Angling Clubs were invited to a meeting with the C.E.O. and other members of the Shannon Regional Fisheries Board at the Lough Ree Arms Hotel.

The overall feeling was that the meeting was constructive and concluded with a commitment for all parties to meet again on a regular basis.

We and the IFPAC expressed our concerns over the continuing deterioration of the water quality in the Shannon and the lack of substantial action to reverse this trend.

The Shannon Regional Fisheries Board explained the difficulties they face due to lack of necessary funding. This reinforces the view held by the Irish Water & Fish Preservation Society that, until the problems with the quality of water in our rivers and lakes are recognize by the Irish government, we are fighting a losing battle.

Although no definite action was agreed upon an important avenue of dialogue has been opened.
