Janet King was born in South Africa where she
studied at the Technikon Natal graduating with a Diploma in Graphic Design. For years she has worked for many vibrant and dynamic design houses as her travels took her from Durban to London to Cape Town and then Dublin.

Inspired by a visit to Art Ireland in November 2003 she began to paint, something she had not done since her days of study. She set up Due South in 2004 as a showcase for her work as well as that of Alix le Juge and David Bucklow, well known artists from Mauritius and South Africa respectively. In addition she exhibits other local artists work too.

Travel and sailing are Janet’s other passions. Not only has she explored South Africa but she has traveled Europe, Australia, New Zealand and been north of the Arctic Circle in both Greenland and Iceland; and along with as much sailing as one can fit in she has sailed around the whole of Ireland. Not surprisingly then landscapes and seascapes are her subject matter. Her most recent fascination is for the lighthouses of Ireland, its coastline and sea. She has worked with a combination of watercolour and pastel as well as oils on canvas.

Janet has exhibited at Art Ireland May and November 2004 and 2005; Peoples Art August and September 2004 and 2005. In April 2005 she painted a portrait of Pierce Brosnan to raise money for UNICEF. She has also taken part in the Christmas Exhibition of Small Works Lahinch Art Gallery, Lahinch, Co Clare, December 10 2005 - January 10 2006.

Currently exhibiting at Cape Cafe, Dundrum, Dublin and
Duane Designs, Loughrea, Co Galway.
