ECDL TRAININGECDL | ECDL Advanced | Introductory Computer Courses | ECDL and VTOS What is the ECDL? It is a certificate, which states that the holder has passed various tests in a range of computer applications. It provides proof for employers that the holder can use the modern computer in a competent manner. We are a registered European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL) training centre. The full ECDL programme covers the following areas (modules):
Each module on average takes about 12 hours practice for someone with little previous knowledge of that particular module. Each module is examined by a three quarter hour examination. We recommend that beginners do an introductory computer 20 hour programme before taking the ECDL programme if doing so at night. ECDL Advanced We offer ECDL Advanced modules in Word Processing and Spreadsheets. You need to have passed that particular module at Basic ECDL level before you can attempt the ECDL Advanced. We offer 20 hour courses as night classes in each module. Each module is examined by a one hour examination.
Full information on the ECDL syllabus can be got at their Web site at http://www.ecdl.ie/
Introductory Computer CoursesKilmallock Institute of Further Education and Training provides a range of computer training courses suitable for both beginners and for those with some experience already. Who are these courses aimed at?
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS No previous educational requirements are needed. Tuition is provided at a range of levels. Each module is assessed separately and participants need not take the ECDL examinations until they feel ready for them. Practice sessions can be provided at the centre as well as tuition if required. COURSE DURATION Course duration can be discussed with participants depending on the level of skills desired. The length of time it will take to acquire the full ECDL qualification will depend on previous knowledge and the amount of practice a person can put in. If you are new to computers we recommend that that you do a 20 hour beginners course first. Course costs will be kept as low as possible and will depend on the amount of people in the group. (Approx. costs €80 per 20-hour course). These are usually run on a one night a week basis at 2 hours each night. Adults over 21 years of age may be eligible to join the Vocational Training Opportunities Scheme which provides introductory and more advanced computer skills to participants. Participants can retain all social welfare allowances. VTOS aims to provide the skills that allow people to confidently enter the modern work environment. For more information on VTOS click here.
