Primrose Cottage is in the Leitrim/Roscommon area one mile from the popular riverside tourist town of Carrick-on-Shannon. It boasts numerous pubs with traditional Irish music sessions, shops, restaurants, river cruises, golf (visitors welcome), swimming pool, leisure centre (squash, badminton, gym) fishing, horse riding and hill walking. It is an perfect location for touring the unspoilt counties of Leitrim, Roscommon, and Sligo. The lakes and rivers in the area are ideal for both coarse and trout fishing. Experience the excitement of doing battle with, and landing, a 30lb (13kg) Irish Pike. Bream, Perch, Rudd, Tench, Brown Trout and Pike are in abundance in the many rivers and lakes. Lough Key Forest park, 5 miles away, surrounds a lake studded with beautiful
islands. Boats can be hired to fish on the lake and visit the tiny islands,
including Castle Island (which has an old ruined castle), and an island
populated by a herd of goats. Wild deer and other wildlife inhabit this
park (one of the largest forest parks in Ireland) and may be glimpsed
on some of the forest walks. There is an adventure playground for children
and lake cruises. There are also tunnels and bog gardens to be explored.
Other local attractions include, Strokestown House and Gardens, King House,
Frybrook, Boyle Abbey, Lough Rynn Estate, a Famine Graveyard, Megalithic
Tombs and Standing Stones. Unspoilt sandy beaches with Atlantic breakers
for swimming and bodyboarding are 30 minutes drive away. |
