                  PREMIER TEAM

MANAGER :JOHN SHINE

The season started with the premier team having high hopes of finally winning the premier league, having won the AOH cup at the end of last season the team was very confident they could win the league .The team started very poorly and won only one game from there first five and found themselves at the foot of the table. This is not what John Shine had in mind and he felt he had no option but to resign .Gerry Holland took over with Denis helping him got a good run which brought them back up the table .Leeside were on top for a while changing top spot with Rockvilla on a few ocassions but waiting just below them were old rivals Blarney. With just three games to go Leeside had the league in there sights but only 3 points  from these games ment a win for Blarney in there last game would give them the league and win they did.Leeside will look back and wonder how they let onother league go ,The poor start, Jermy O Sullivan out with injury for so long and losing vital games in the end ment we will have to wait onother year.Leeside were the holders of the AOH cup having won it for the first time the year before were drawn away to Passage in there first defence ,This was a third round game and after a great game in Passage it ended in a two all draw with Leeeside missing a penalty in the the last few minutes of extra time. The replay in Little Island again failed to produce a winner and so it went to penaltys where Passage won 4-3.In the Linnane cup Leeside were beaten by Maymount in the quarter final.Leeside did have some thing to chear about as Craig Donnelly won the golden boot award scoring 22 league goals ,congratulations Craig.Leeside also had players on the cork AUL team ,Craig Donnelly ,Connor O Leary Jermy O Sullivan and both Stephen and Frank Walsh before both cryed off the panal with injurys. The Leeside players did themselves and the club proud and helped to bring the AUL team to the semi-final of the oscar traynor cup.Craig Donnelly scored  8 goals along the way for the AUL team.

LEAGUE 1B TEAM

MANAGERS : GER DELEA , JOHN O SULLIVAN.

Managers John and Ger had high hopes for this team and for long spells it looked like they could win  this league.Leesides second string looked very strong early on and shared top spot with Springfield for most of the season.A few poor results late in the league handed the initiative to Springfield  and they held on to win the league.Leeside finished in third position .In the cups the team got a good run in both County and St Michaels cups .In the St Michels cup Leeside reached the semi-final before losing to Blackpool  3-1.In the county cup Leeside had good wins over Brooklodge Bellmount ,Kanturk before losing to Passage. This is a very young team are well capable of winning a trophy in the near future.

LEAGUE 3B TEAM.

MANAGERS  COLM TWOHIG, KEN WALSH.

Leesides third string were managed by Colm and Ken for the season and they did a great job with the team finishing in 6th position .This was a great achivment considering it was our third team .This team put in some great performances during the year .In the cups Leeside put in some good performances but failed to progrees to the later stages of any of them.

Munster junior cup v Togher

 Leeside 0  Togher 2

Leeside played Togher on sunday morning hopeing to advance to the next round of the Munster junior cup. Leeside beat Togher in the league two weeks ago and started this game full of confidence under new manager Gerry Holland. Leeside had some good chances in the first half but failed to take any of them,Derek Delea came close ,the ball just clipping the bar after lobbing the keeper .Conor o Leary also came close. As the game wore on Togher came more into the game and took the lead before half time. The second half started with Togher well on top, mid way through the half Leeside should have got a penalty when Conor o Leary was taken down in the box , but the referee waved play on.Leeside pushing forward for the equaliser were leaving gaps at the back and were caught on the break with twenty minutes to go ,the Togher left back broke up the wing and played a great ball across to the center forward who lobbed the advancing Leeside keeper into the empty net .Leeside tried hard to get back into the game but could not break down a well organised Togher defence. Gerry made a few changes to no avail.Togher looked more likely to score against a very shakey Leeside defence.Togher were good value for there two nil win. Leeside were disappointed with their second half performance .

      Leeside 2 V Rockvilla.1

Leeside  played Rockvilla last Saturday in the premier league .The game started slow ,both teams playing the ball around without creating anything.Rockvilla produced their first real attack after 30minutes .A cross to Leesides near post was met by Rockvillas only forward who managed to beat all three leeside defenders to head the ball past Ray o Connors near post for the opening goal. The second half started with Leeside replacing there injured center forward.Leeside started well with Craig Donnely now finding holes in the Rockvilla defence.A long ball out of defence by Ray O Connor  was knocked on by Frank Horgan to Kieran Murphy. Craig Donnely finished off the move by slipping the ball left footed past the Rockvilla keeper .Leeside were now  on top . Ten minutes later a great free kick from Donnely had the ball in the Rockvilla net  but the ref called play back saying he wasn't ready.A few minutes later a great run from Donnely took him past  four defenders but the keeper just got a leg to his shot, the ball fell kindly for Horgan ,but his shot was taken off the line.Leeside got the winner with five minutes to go . A Craig Donnely corner was met by Stephen Walsh who powered home a great header. For Leeside Stephen Walsh ,Craig Donnely and Frank Walsh were in great form.

Hot-shot Donnelly is the two goal hero for Cork A.U.L

Well done to John Shine and the Cork A.U.L team, who had a great win over the highly fancied Waterford district league team at Turners Cross last Sunday.

SAT 24TH NOV

A.O.H CUP

PASSAGE V LEESIDE

Leeside were away to Passage last Saturday in there first defence of the A.O.H cup.The game finished in a two all draw after extra time.Leeside were lucky to snatch a draw in normal time and could have won it in extra time missing a penalty.

Leeside started well and had a great chance after ten minutes when Craig Donnely got in behind the Passage defence and with only the keeper to beat shot over the bar.A few minutes later Donnely again skipped past his marker but shot over with his right foot this time. From then on till half time it was all Passage and they scored after twenty one minutes,Leeside failed to clear there lines and the ball broke to a Passage forwardClifton Gaffney who gave Ray O Connor no chance with a sweet strike into the corner.Five minutes later it was two nil,a good move freed there left wingerJason Mullins who turned in_side his marker and scored with a great drive past Raymond's near post.Passage were in total control at this stage and should have scored more goals as they tore through the Leeside defence with ease. The first half ended with Passage leading two nil.

Gerry Holland made two changes at half time, bringing on Wayne Barret and Frank Horgan for Kieran Murphy and Derek Delea. These changes and more direct play from Leeside paid off after ten minutes when Leeside scored after Wayne's cross was headed into his own goal by a Passage defender Paul Coughlan .Leeside were now piling on the pressure creating chance after chance but not taking any of them.Chance after chance went a begging ,with time up Leeside got a free kick on the half way line,Tommy Getting's put in a great ball that fell to Frank Horgan twelve yards out ,Frank some how managed to shoot wide with the goal at his mercy and with it so every body though Leeside's last chance.Leeside did get another chance another free kick from Thomas Getting's again fell to Horgan who knocked the ball back across goal for Donnely to head home to bring the game to extra time.

Extra time started with Joe Lyons on for Jimmy Bar O sullivan.Leeside dominated the first half but created only one real chance , Frank Horgan did well up the right ,worked his way in and laid a great ball off to Lyons who shot over from eight yards. The second half was three minutes old when Joe Lyons was fouled in the box,Craig Donnely took the penalty which was saved by the Passage keeper Brian Beale. Passage got a chance to win the game in the last minute but Michael Coughlan got back with a great challange to knock the ball away and ensure the game ended in a draw.

FINAL SCORE   Passage  2  Leeside 2

Best  for Leeside were  Frank Walsh, Jimmy Bar O Sullivan and Wayne Barret

LEESIDE V PASSAGE

LEESIDE OUT OF CUP.

Leeside are out of the AOH cup after they lost to passage on penaltys last Saturday.

The game ended one all with passage winning the shootout 4-3.Leeside took the lead after 15 minutes when Craig Donnely scored.Passage drove forward and put Leeside under savage pressure ,but it was Leeside who nearly got the next goal ,a ball into the Passage box was headed on by Donnely over the stranded keeper only to land on the bar and over.Passage drew level shortly after, a shot from twentyfive yards got a wicked deflection past the stranded Ray O Connor .The first half ended 1-1.

The second half failed to produce any more goals ,but Passage will wonder how they didn't finish this game in normal time, they had plenty of chances but poor shooting left them down.

The game went into extra time with Passage still on top but it was Leeside who should have won the game in the last minute when a mistake by the Passage centerhalf allowed Donnely in but he took the wrong option shooting from a poor angle and three Leeside players all alone in the box , and so to penaltys were Passage won 4-3.

Donnelly magic sinks Kinsale

Craig Donnelly scored two and set up two as Leeside beat Kinsale 5-0.

Leeside were at home to Kinsale in the league in a game they had to win and win they did crushing Kinsale by five goals to nil. Leeside started well but created very few real chances .Kinsale came more into the game midway through the first half but like Leeside rarely troubled Mullins in the Leeside goal. Leeside went ahead after 35minutes after Derek Delea was taken down in the box , up stepped Donnelly to fire Leeside into the lead. The teams went in at half time with Leeside winning 1-0.

Kinsale started the second half pushing Leeside back but could have  found themselves two down after 65minutes .Craig Donnelly broke away and was taken down just out side the box ,He took the kick himself but with the keeper beaten the ball crashed back into play off the crossbar. Leeside went two up a few minutes later, Leeside won a corner that fell to Corcoran in the box and his shot went in off the defender ,there was a doubt about whether the ball crossed the line or not but the ref gave the goal. Mullins in the Leeside goal made a great save a few minutes later saving a header from point blank range. Leeside then took control ,A corner from O Sullivan was met by Donnelly to make it 3-0 and few minutes later another great free kick by Donnelly lead to Leesides fourth goal after Delea was taken down,The Kinsale keeper got a hand to his shot Wayne Barrett reacted first and headed Leeside's fourth.Jermy O Sullivan then got a great goal Kinsale were pushing forward and leaving gaps at he back ,a Leeside clearence broke to Donnelly who played a great ball to O Sullivan who dribbled past two defenders before rounding the keeper to score number five.Kinsale tried hard to get on the score sheet but found Mullins in great form making save after save to keep a clean sheet for Leeside.

This was a great win for the premier team and keeps them right in the hunt for league.Craig Donnelly was in great form up front for Leeside , His running with the ball at the Kinsale defense caused them problems all night,Connor o Leary was a tower of strenth at the back keeping Kinsale out time after time and when they did manage to get past the Leeside back four found Kieran Mullins in tremendous form.

Leeside played there last game of the season against Greenmount knowing a win for Leeside and a result from the Blarney game being played at the same time would give Leeside the league, Leeside started the better but found themselves a goal down at half time following a mistake in the Leeside defence.Word was coming through that Blarney were a goal up as well so all was not looking so well for Leeside and it got worse in the second half after being the better team for most of the game found themselves two goals down .Leeside got back into the game when Jermy O Sullivan got a goal but couldn't get the second and then gave away a third goal in the last minute after keepper Mullins went up for a corner and Greenmout broke away for a soft goal. This was a disappointing result for Leeside who had once again come so close to winning this league.Well done to Blarney the club would like to congratulate the Blarney players and club on winning the league,They had a though run in but came through all there games and deserved to win the league in the end.

   Dunbar 0 v Leeside 2.

Leeside B Top of the table As Cogan Buries Dunbar

It was a calm over cast day in Waterrock Park on Sunday November the 11th 2001 “Perfect for football”. Leeside lined up against a struggling Dunbar side. Leeside on the back of two straight wins from a local derby with Brooklodge to qualify for the quarter final of the St Micheals cup. Leeside were feeling very confident. Leeside started very strongly with Ger O’Mahony leading the charge, winning header after header and tackle after tackle. The two front men Paul Hayes and Bill Cogan looked very sharp and got good supply from the two wings, from Nick Charlambous and Colin Ahern. Leeside were getting stronger and more confident as the game wore on and you felt it was only a matter of time before they broke the Dunbar defence. The break came in the 35th minute when Ger O’Mahony received the ball in the middle of the park and gave a great through ball to the on-running Cogan, Cogan tucked away nicely and Leeside were cruising. Leeside ended the half one up and the spirits were high in the camp.

I’m sure John O’Sullivan and Ger Delea told the lads they were doing nothing wrong and to keep up the pressure. Leeside did just that and in the 67th minute Charlambous gave an excellent ball to the very impressive Cogan and Cogan netted Leeside a second. Leeside were now dominating right through the field from Big Pat Collins in goal to the heroic Bill Cogan up front. The game finished 2–0 but this was a flattering scoreline for Dunbar, on another day it could easily have been 4 or 5.

LEESIDE B V DUNBAR

LEESIDE PARK WAS THE VENUE FOR THE SECOND CLASH OF THE SEASON BETWEEN LEESIDE AND DUNBAR, THE LAST ENCOUNTER WAS PRETTY MUCH A ONE-SIDED AFFAIR AND TO BE PERFECTLY HONEST THIS TIME LOOKED LIKE IT WAS GOING TO BE NO DIFFERENT.

LEESIDE STARTED THE GAME WITHOUT THEIR INFLUENTIAL WINGER NICK CHARALMBOUS, WHO HAS DEPARTED FOR AUSTRIALA.DAMIEN O LEARY SLOTED INTO THIS POSITION AND WAS WELL CAPABLE OF FILLING IT.DAMIEN IS AN UP AND COMING PLAYER WHO HAS STARTED WITH THE YOUTH TEAM AND PROGRESSED TO THE 3B TEAM AND ONTO THE 1B TEAM.DAMIEN HAS ALSO FEATURED IN OUR PREMIER TEAM ANSWERING THE CALL FROM GERRY HOLLAND AND DENIS CAMBRIDGE.DAMIEN IS CERTAINLY ONE TO WATCH FOR THE FUTURE.

PAUL HAYES WAS AGAIN ON THE SCORE SHEET FOR THE LADS AS THEY WERE REALLY PUTTING THE GAME UP TO DUNBAR. RAY O LEARY [A RECENT SIGNING FROM BROOKLODGE] WAS VERY STRONG IN THE MIDDLE FOR LEESIDE.IT WAS ALMOST AN IDENTICAL REPEAT OF THE GAME IN WATEROCK ONE GOAL IN THE FIRST HALF AND ONE IN THE SECOND.DUNBAR ARE REALLY A POOR SIDE AND ARE PROBABLY LOOKING AT RELIGATION THIS SEASON. LEESIDE ALSO HAVE TO START TAKING MORE OF THE CHANCES THEY CREATE IF THEY WANT TO CHALLENGE FOR THE LEAGUE.

SAT 1ST DEC

ST MICHAELS CUP.

LEESIDE B V EVERTON.

Leeside b team were at home to Everton last saturday in the quarter final of the St Michaels Cup and won a great game after extra time.

The game started off at a frantic pace with lots of chances for both sides, as the game settled Leeside took control , mainly due to the hard working Damian O Leary and Ger O Mahony in midfield. Leeside's pressure finally told when after 23 minute's the ball broke for Joe Lyons and from an acute angle rifled a low drive accross the keeper and into the bottom corner of the net. 1-0 to Leeside and thoroughly deserved.Everton piled on the pressure after the restart and should have scored with the number of chances they created , but each time they were toiled by the excellent display of  keeper Pat Collins . Tempers flared and in the space of five minutes both teams were reduced to ten men . On the stroke of half time a long ball swung in from the right from an Everton player was headed home to make it 1-1 at the break.

After the break Leeside started the brighter and should have scored after some relentless  pressure.Yet again tempers flared and Everton were reduced to nine men.Leeside now with the extra man turned the screw and scored after sixtyfive minutes, a free kick was awarded to Leeside thirty yards out ,Damian O Leary stepped up and rifled a rocket into to the top corner. It now looked like Leeside would run up a cricket score but a combination of poor finishing and good goal -keeping ,Everton held firm.Leeside sat very deep and invited trouble on themselves and in the eightyeight minute Everton equalised, a low ball put across a packed goal was taped home from two yards by the Everton "unmarked" forward. The game now went to extra time.

Man of the match Damian O Leary scored again after five minutes.Leeside now looked in control as Everton seemed very tired as they played a lot of the game with ten men.Leeside continued to dominate but just with a few minutes to go the"controversial"Craig Donnely neted a fourth goal.Game set and match for Leeside.

From the start Dillons Cross proved difficult to break down , late in the first half the Cross were awarded a penalty which to be honest was a strange decision indeed , Dillons scored the penalty to lead at the break one nil.

Leeside equalised ten minutes into the second half when Brian Cashman's calmness and vision  in front of goal brought them level.Ten minutes later against the run of play Dillons Cross scored,A shot from thirty yards was fumbled by Gary Lane ( Fabian Bartez would have being proud of that one Gary) .  Leeside dominated thereafter and were unlucky not to score a equaliser with two attemps cleared off the line in the closing minutes.

Early in the second half Hibs got one back when they exploited a poor clearance by Colm Twohig to score with a great shot that went in off the post.Leeside's O Sullivan was then booked for a voilent verbal assault on the referee as Hibs began to pile on the pressure.David Gettings came on for Eoin Riley and began to help out Leeside's defence more and leeside began to get back into the game.Leeside nearly got the third goal they needed to wrap up the game when a blistering left foot volley by Getting's just went over the bar.Towards the end of the game O'Sullivan seemed very nervous but a few words from his younger brother Brian settled the centre-half  and endless recoveries from Twohig ensured a great win for Leeside.

BALLINCOLLIG V LEESIDE C

Player manager Kenneth Walsh was the hero for Leeside's c team on Sunday last as they came from behind to win 4-1.Kenneth scored twice in the second half and could have had a hatrick but for a great save from the spot kick by the Ballincollig keeper.

Leeside started this game poorly and conseeded a goal within the first few minutes .Leeside had plenty of chances and were unlucky to go in at half time a goal down.

Alan Lane started the Leeside come back when his shot went through the keepers legs to make it one all .Ballincollig then gave away a penalty after a shot by Paul Fenton was handled in the box.Ken Walsh scored from the spot kick to put Leeside 2-1 up.A few minutes later Walsh had a chance to put Leeside 3-1 up when Ballincollig gave away another penalty but this time the keeper got a hand to Ken's shot and the ball rebounded off the bar .Ken made up for his miss a few minutes later when he made it 3-1 for Leeside when he scored with a great shot.Leeside introduced David Gettings and within a few minutes he delivered the fatal blow that finally killed off Ballincolig .Gettings stunned the Ballincollig defence when he picked up the ball just beyond halfway skipping past the ballincollig defence he left himself with a tight angle but finished with the venom of a rattlesnake to put Leeside 4-1 up and into the next round of the County Cup.

LEESIDE  C  V  YOUGHAL YARNS

Leesides c team strolled to an emphatic win over Youghal Yarns on Sunday last at Leeside park and gained revenge for there defeat a few weeks ago to Youghal.

Youghal started the stronger but found Leesides keeper Brian O Sullivan  in great form.Brian who has come up through the leeside schoolboys teams has being playing outstanding and was by far the best player on the pitch.Leeside slowly got back into the game and went ahead after 25minutes when Ken Walsh smashed home a powerful header to make it 1-0 , From then on it was all Leeside and went 2-0 up after 38 minutes when Alan Lane smashed home a 30 yard cracker,it was an eventful first half with the crowd  of 20 or so singing O Sullivans prasses.

The second half started with Youghal pushing forward but it was O Sullivan again at the heart of the Leeside resistance recovering from centerhalf twohigs mistakes.Padrig O Sullivan put in another good performance at the heart of the Leeside defence as he also made some good recoverys from  Twohigs mistakes who had his worse game of the season.Ken Walsh got Leesides third from the penalty spot mid way through the second half,Ken stepped up and cooly sloted away the penalty as he  takes everything anyway .David Gettings was introduced and sparked a bit of life into Leeside. Gettings won a free kick on the edge of the box and was eager to take it but up stepped Ken Walsh and smashed a great free kick to the net for his hatrick and leesides fourth to finish off the game. The two O Sullivans were in great form for Leeside  as was David Gettings after coming on and did enough to start the next day , he was unlucky not to start today.

CARRIGTWOHILL V LEESIDE  C

FORMER LEESIDE PLAYER HEALY DOES ALL THE DAMAGE.

It was a cold day in Carrig and it took the Leeside lads to long to get warmed up.Carrig had being gifted four very soft lucky goals in the first fifteen minutes. The back line of Niall O Brien Andy Morrison ,Padrig O Sullivan and Colm Twohig ( who had the flu)was not working, so the sweeper Padrig  had to go ,was it his fault for four goals!we'll never know.On 35 minutes Leeside gifted Carrig another goal, keeper Brian O Sullivan called for a ball from a Carrig  corner and missed it for another lucky goal. From the kick off Leeside scored the best goal of the game ,Colm Twohig ran at the Carrig defence and showed some neat touches before being taken down in the box.Up stepped (take all) Ken Walsh to blast a great shot past Adrian Kidney in the Carrig goal to leave the score at half time 5-1 to Carrig.

The second half started with Leeside takeing the game to Carrigtwohill but gifted Carrig another lucky goal after 55minutes .Brian O Sullivan mishit a simple clerance to a Carrig forward whose shot scraped in at the far corner.Ken Walsh then threw in the towel and brought on David Gettings for Adrian Foley who was having a good game. Can you have David ,Brian and Padrig O Sullivan on your team playing the way they did and expect to win I dont think so.Carrig got two more soft goals at the very end . It was a black day for Leesides c team but Colm Twohig Adrian Foley and Brian Cashman kept the Leeside flag flying on a day when every thing went wrong for Leeside and Carrig had all the luck.At times it seemed as if Carrig had 14 playing for them there own 11 and Leesides Brian and Padrig O Sullivan and David Gettings.   On another day it could have being different for Leeside Carrig are a good team but not eight goals better.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
