Introduction

It has always interested me to discover something new that can be done on the Internet, something that hasn't been done before or perhaps hasn't been implemented yet. With alessonindriving this was the case. An online guide to the rules of the road and not only that but Flash interactivity to boot!

An award winning site with a strong mix of dynamic HTML and clever Flash. The site is aimed at Irish drivers about to sit the driving test. Both in content and interactivity the site succeeds in aiding drivers with accurate, up to date information.

Requirements

alessonindriving was a new idea and with this came certain requirements .
It was important, for the site to work, that:

the information gathered was up to date and a recognized standard
an appropriate technology would be used to benefit interactivity
navigation was clear throughout the site and its interactivity
HCI had to be researched
promotional and marketing methods could be used at low cost

Whilst at the same time the site had to facilitate:

an easy up dateable back end, allowing for the online booking*
rapid growth in the number of customers using the booking service

* it is proposed that a PHP - SQL back end will be incorporated to process customer queries and to develop a customer/client searchable database. (see ongoing for more)

Solution

With constant communication with the staff at the clinic, a guideline was set down that detailed how a potential customer would like to view the site for the first time. This visit would allow the customer to appreciate the warm, friendly atmosphere of the clinic and encourage them to make an appointment.

Templates were drawn up and a decision was made to go with the simplest design for easy navigation and customer understanding. With programming kept to a minimum, the site was complete in less than a week. Server space and hosting was provided at an additional cost per annum.

The Pembroke Clinic's expectations were exceeded across three key criteria:

Quality
Reliability
Usability
