    http://www.sligotourism.ie/accom.html

Closer Accomodation should be in the Cliffony, Grange, Mullaghmore area.

Note of Caution: To date Visibility and Dive conditions in Mullaghmore have not been great. In that, it has pi**ed off the local clubs not to be anxious to dive there. However, July-Austust are generally good times to dive there and the Dives tend to be very good. I will be able to clarify this prior to the outing....

Dives: 15-25M outside harbour running NorthWest Thumb Rock: Lots of Reefs to follow: generally Divable when Conditions are bad:

St. Johns Point: 25 Min boat Ride Due North out of Harbour. Lots of Locations to dive. good Fishlife, Reefs etc, etc.. up to 35-40M. bit of a trek by Car, basically 1Hr min by road. Into Donegal now.... By car will mean a 150yard Trek with gear down to steps to dive point: Boat cannot be launched at John's Point. Maybe advisable to condsider, Stocking Boat with Equipment and travelling to Johns point and divers travel by car if there is a large group of Divers. Would want to run a 2-4split dive scenario out of John Point if cars are used.

The Gully: Out and Reef of Mullaghmore Head: Reef running North East, depth vary from entry to 6M to 25Meters. Interesting Dive and would suit trainees also. However, conditions have to be calm: Normally a well battered region, so slack tide required.

Ballyconnell- Near Cliffony: Requirement is 4*4 jeep to launch boat only.: Long Beach run, Tends to be a swell in are but, location offers interesting Dive, but getting conditions right is the problem.

Sligo Sub Aqua hosted Ennis last year for a weekend up there, so if you know someone in Ennis, get their opinion on location.

The dates for the rest of May and June are as follows

May 24/25 Kilkee time to be announced.
May 31/3rd June Valentia Contact Suzy or Richard for times and meeting venues

June 7/8 Aud out of Oysterhaven Contact Brian Kearney 086-8119505
    June 14/15th Kerry Head
    June 21/22 Doonbeg
    June 28/29 Doolin

Toni our DO is away from the 25th May for two weeks please contact any of the committee to find out what diving is going on as you know these dates are all weather permitting and may change.

  • The Aud
  •   The Aud is the flattened wreck of the 1916 gun running ship off Cork harbour

      When & where

It is hoped to dive it on Sun June 7th (and or Sat June 6th ). Weather permitting.

The launch point is Oysterhaven (near Kinsale) (or alternative Crosshaven)

Leaving slip to suit tides approx. on Sun at 11 am & for Sat 10 am.

    Details later depending on arrangements.

      Site

Located near the Smiths and a Marker 5 Kn. South of Roche’s point.

The wreck is at 36m on flat ground – square dive profile (No stop BT 12 mins)

There can be a strong current so timing is vital.

It is very exposed to general Southerly winds.

Can be found with GPS and Echo sounder and then we will lay a shot line, which all takes time.

      All divers

Must be fully dived up and fit for this dive.

Must carry a surface marker and whistle / siren.

If any diver is considering a decompression dive they must have suitable back-up, buddy, equipment and training. Air consumption planning is a serious consideration. I need to see their full dive plan well in advance.

There is a short tide window to dive, therefore I need to know exact numbers for boat capacity as there is only one dive per tide.

The dive needs planning because of depth, square profile and currents etc.

    Wreck details are available

    Numbers and weather are vital.

Let me know now if you are interested.

  • News Update 12th March  2003

  • The traditional "training weekend" is next weekend in Kilkee and we need club divers to help out with the trainees. The weather looks reasonable for the weekend at this stage so we should try to take full advantage of it. Finbar will be meeting a number of trainees on Saturday at 12 noon at the dive center. The plan is to do some open water snorkels and some short dives with trainees who have completed their 5 snorkels at hopefully "Newfee" (not sure how you spell it). Finbar can only make it on Saturday so volunteers for Saturday, Sunday and possibly Monday if people are interested in going up. Please let Finbar know if you can make it and when.

Tomas has an order for 11 Bottles from Aquaholics based in the north for Faber 12lt bottles delivered for under 200 Euro.  Any extra orders should be placed with Tomas as soon as possible.

The pool sessions will continue for the next three weeks.  The Pit will be in use next week.  So those helping with training should bring Scuba equipment.

Please note that John Breen will be giving his Marine Life lecture next Tuesday at 7.45pm in the U.L. Sports Hall lecture theatre.  This is certain to be of interest to all, so be there in time please...

Well done and Congratulations to Richard Roche on passing his M1 recently.!!!!!

  • News Update 21 February 2003.

  • The time for open water introduction has indeed arrived for our latest recruits and Edel was brave enough to "suffer" the cold open water snorkel.  OOOOOHHHHH, the thoughts of it make me shiver....  Anyway, another opportunity awaits those who missed out on last weekend and those willing to try out a snorkel are asked to contact Finbar to confirm details.  Kilkee is designated as location for Sundays' try a snorkel... Who is providing the Soup and Sandwiches???

A reminder to those to let Toni know if you intend to travel to Dingle for Easter Weekend.

John Breen is provisionally trying to Arrange a time for the Marine Life lecture for all in early March.. So keep an eye open for news on this page or the outcome from the regular meeting in KOBs every Tuesday after pool training.

Don't forget the Dive Show coming up in March.. It may be a good time for equipment purchase.

The Pool training session are coming to an end in March so trainees are reminded to get the pool & Lecture training in...

All trainees are reminded to bring logbooks. Medical details will be checked by Toni...

      • News Update 31st October 2002

Thanks to Toni, the Clubs new Diving Officer, who directed the Dive outing  in Portmagee  last weekend.  While conditions only allowed for one official Club Dive,  Wind force picked up incredibly quickly on Saturday afternoon to warrant cancellation of any further Dives.  Thanks to Mark and Louise for handling the Dive Boat for the Dive outing.

Thanks to the culinary skills of Frank who had the Soup and sandwiches ready for those "lucky" divers who returned after a dive off the Perches.

A new Card game "Come on in" was later taught by Finbar, and as the Wine flowed, money was lost and won. Focus was then shifted to the Bridge Bar where a good night was enjoyed by all.

The Committee met last night to finalize preparations for the Try-a-Dive sessions and forthcoming Training season.

So keep an eye on the Newsletter page for further updates.
