What is a Festival of Flowers?

A Festival of Flowers is an expression through
flowers of the history and spirituality
of a particular place or church.

The Festival of Flowers has a long and valued tradition in the Church of Ireland.

The theme of our 2001 Festival  is:

“Follow me and I will make you fishers of men”
(St. Mark Ch. I V. 17)

Our theme is based on the dedication of this beautiful church to St. Andrew the fisherman.  It also reflects the River Liffey, with its Salmon Leap and many weirs and walks which links the two historic parish churches of St. Mary’s in Leixlip and St. Andrew’s in Lucan.

This festival was only possible through the, freely given, time, dedication and skills of our flower arrangers.  The over thirty exhibits, have been prepared by a team of over seventy arrangers who have come to help us either as individuals or through one of the local flower arranging clubs that have helped us here in Lucan.

If you want to know more about flower arranging and flower clubs look up www.aoifa.com and www.doddervale.com on the web.

Finally I must thank the individuals, families and commercial sponsors whose contributions made it possible to put on this festival.  A big “thank you” to all of you.

Felicity Satchwell, Co-ordinator, Floral exhibits

The festival  features 33 floral exhibits Each is dedicated to the memory of family and friends of parishioners. Photos will be posted on the site when they become available.

The Festival of Flowers  within St. Andrew's Church
will be accompanied in the Parish Centre and in the church grounds by a high quality

Art Exhibition
