I live on a mixed farm. We have sheep, cattle and cows on the farm.

Sheep
We have about 50 ewes (female sheep) and 2 rams (male sheep). This year we had around 70 lambs. The ewes lamb in January and February. This is a very busy and exciting time on the farm.

Soon the sheep will have to have their thick, wolly coats cut. This is called shearing. A machine is used to do this. The sheep's coat is cut off all in one piece and rolled up. Then we sell it and the wool is used to make warm clothes and blankets.

Cows
We have around twenty cows. Each year they have a calf. At the moment we have twelve calves. The cows usually calf between February and May. The cows are housed in the slatted house for the winter months but for the rest of the year they llive in the fields eating fresh grass.

Cattle
We have almost 100 cattle on the farm. These animals are also housed in the slatted house for the winter and live in the fields for the rest of the year. In September when they are fat we either bring them to the mart or send them to the factory.

Horses
Unfortunately we don't have any horses. When my father was young they had horses but now the tractor and modern machinery has replaced the horse on the farm.
