Foot and mouth
disease is a highly contagious disease found in animals. It is caused by a virus. It
affects cloven-hoofed animals such as cattle, sheep, pigs, goats etc. Animals who suffer
from this disease have blisters on their feet and mouth and they loose weight. The disease spreads from
animal to animal and can also spread in the air. How can we reduce the
risk of getting Foot and Mouth disease?
Certain disinfectants
are successful in combatting this disease. We all have seen pictures like the ones above
whereby at entrances to farms farmers have mats/straw with disinfectant on them. This
reduces the risk of spreading the disease. To find out more about this subject, click on the links below: http://www.irlgov.ie/daff/Areasofl/FMD/default.HTM |
