This workshop is designed for people who can’t attend any weekday evening
Pilates courses that FITNECISE Coaching offers.
Experience and become competent, practicing the various Pilates
exercises for
increased flexibility, tone, suppleness, strength and mobility.
The following list shows some of the exercises you will learn.
1. Hundred (abdominal – core strength, toning)
2. Swan Dive (lower back flexibility, strength)
3. Side Lift (waist - abdominal– core strength, toning)
4. Pilates Push-up (spine mobility, upper body, abdominal and core strength)
5. Roll back (whole spine flexibility, mobility)
6. Roll up (pure abdominal – core strength, toning)

Understand and learn how to:
1. Place your spine into the “Neutral Position”
2. Engage your abs (TVA Transvers Abdominals) the Pilates way
3. Apply Lateral or Thoracic breathing for the Pilates exercises
Your Health Investment for the weekend workshop is €100.
A non-refundable and non-transferable deposit of €50 is required to secure a place,

- ”Pure Pilates” by Michael King was one of the first Pilates books I bought,
when I started to study Pilates.
Michael King is studying Pilates since 1978, when he came across it during his time as dancer at the London School of Contemporary Dance. In 1982 he opened his own studio “Body Control”. In 1984 he took up a job in Texas where he was offered a position to run the Pilates Studio at the Houston Ballet Company, he taught Pilates ever since. Now he is head of the “Pilates Institute” in the UK. I studied with the Irish branch of the Pilates Institute.
The book starts with a few short chapters, that describe
• What is Pilates?
• Why Pilates?
• Why Pure Pilates?
• Man and Mentor (a brief look at the history of Pilates and Joseph Pilates)
Then the VITAL ELEMENTS are Explained:
• Concentration
• Breathing
• Centering
• Control
• Precision
• Movement
• Isolation
• Routine
These are the main focus points to watch out during every Pilates moves. Some of them are easier to grasp than others e.g. like the “Centering” or “Breathing” which fall into place when you get into the routine of practicing regular.
The rest of the book describes the various exercises, with clear pictures and easy to follow explanations, instructions. Additionally the “emphasis” of the move is highlighted e.g. mobility or strength, a “visual cue” and a “recommended number of repetitions” are mentioned.
For all moves you see variations, alternatives that make a move easier or more challenging.
One other feature I like a lot is the “Step by Step Plan”. It lists all exercise, it emphasis and level of difficulty. The plan is split in three sections
• Essential Exercise Chart
• New Challenges Exercise Chart
• Advanced Exercise Chart
I personally use this book often as reference when I design a programme for a personal training client, a group of people with a specific need, e.g. golfers, hurling players, soccer player etc.
CONCLUSION:
A book I would recommend to everyone who starts of with Pilates, wants to get a good overview what Pilates is all about. It gives a good selection of mobility, strength and flexibility Pilates exercises, is easy to read and well illustrated.

I am currently in the process of completing an Intermediate Level Pilates course and as part of the certification criteria, I am required to make a one hour Pilates video with 5 participants.
