The Munster Literature Centre, Tigh Litriochta, based at 26 Sullivan's Quay, Cork is a resource centre established in 1993 to highlight, celebrate and promote all aspects of the literature of the Munster region.
                 
Our literary programme includes:

  • A series of readings and creative writing master classes given by professional writers in and from the regionOpening2.JPG
  • An annual literary festival "Eigse na gCúige" held in February which celebrates the literary and cultural diversity of the regions.
  • A quarterly magazine "Southword" which documents the literary news of the region and gives space to new writing of quality from both established and emerging writers
  • An index of contemporary and past writers, both nationally known writers and those that are/were highly regarded within their own area
  • An annual cultural exchange with Swansea Writers and Artists group SWAG
  • Literary competitions based on the short story, poetry and prose and a special Patricia Lynch Competition on Writing for/by Children
  • A multi media exhibition consisting of 72 beautifully designed panels documenting the life and works of writers from The Fraser Group of Writers, through to Daniel Corkery, Frank O' Connor, Sean O'Faolain, Canon Sheehan, Elizabeth Bowen, Kate O' Brien, Sommerville and Ross, Molly Keane, Muiris O' Suilleabhain, through to William Trevor, Mary Leland and Dervla Murphy amongst many other writers of Munster. The exhibition also incorporates works of art created by the Cork based artist Clare Bradshaw in response to the work of several of these writers
  • An audio visual archive containing interviews and other memorabilia from the lives and works of the writers researched
  • An interactive schools programme aimed at both second level and primary level students, based on the life and works of Frank O'Connor and Patricia Lynch
  • A series of portraits of past and contemporary writers by the artist Richard Noonan
  • A pro active role in the development of the literary aspect of the annual arts festival 'A Sense of Cork' held in June each year.
