Commander Mark Mellet DSM. Captain of LE Eitne has served for almost 30 years with the Irish Naval Service. Prior to his appointment early last year as Captain of LE Eithne Commander Mellett was Captain of the Irish Naval Vessel's LE Orla and LE Ciara. It was while Captain of LE Orla in 1994 Commander Mellett was awarded the Distinguished Service Medal by the Irish Government. This followed his successful arrest and detention of a large Yacht off the Irish coast which had a large quantity of drugs on board. Commander mellet also holds citations for his services in Afghanistan and Lebanon

Commander Mellett attended University College Cork and was awarded a Masters in Government and Public Policy. He also holds a diploma from the United States Naval War College Newport RI and graduated with the highest distinction. He was also top graduate at both the Irish Command and Staff College and the Royal Naval Lieutenants Course Greenwich.


The Naval Association are very proud of the achievments by many members of the Naval Service and in particular the many achievements of Commander Mark Mellett.
