Film and TV Projects

Current and recent projects include:

? Kung-fu Finance, 15 min, Comedy, 1998
Marty and Shay are two Dublin lads who, after seeing a Bruce Lee movie, are inspired to write their own.  Our film follows them through the trials and tribulations of raising finance and casting to finally shooting the film.

The film stars comedians Jason Byrne (Channel 4’s Edinburgh or Bust, The General, Father Ted, Channel 4’s Gas and featured in July’s RTE Guide),  Paul Tylak (Star of forthcoming TV3’s flagship entertainment/travel programme Messers Tylak and Rooney, Father Ted), Ned Dennehy (most recently seen in The General) and the Dance Theatre of Ireland’s JJ Formento as Bruce O’Lee.

? ‘Shay’, a feature programme on the internationally renowned film director, Jim Sheridan.  Made with Jim Sheridan’s full cooperation, it traces the development of his career from the early theatre days to the present day.  The programme makers also travelled with Jim Sheridan on his hopeful trip to the Oscars with “In the Name of the Father”.  Narrated by Jimmy Murphy, it includes contributions from, among others, Bono and Shirley McLaine.

? From Clare to Here, a feature documentary currently in post production. Filmed in Ireland and the United States, it focuses on Irish music at home and abroad through the outstanding Clare fiddle player Martin Hayes.  This film includes footage from San Francisco, Chicago as well as Clare.  Contributors to the programme include Jean Butler (Riverdance), Paddy  (Chieftans), Sean McGinley and many more.

? ‘Bloomstime’, a celebration of the life and work of James Joyce around Bloomsday for the James Joyce Centre.  The programme was written and presented by Senator David Norris and visits a number of the locations around Dublin which were important in his life such as the house in Rathgar where he was born, and Belvedere College where he went to school.  Norris links the locations with snippets from Joycean texts.  The programme really captures the carnival atmosphere of the day including footage of the Bloomsday celebrations from around Dublin and some readings from the tower in Sandycove.
