Oscarsborg Fortress

By G.Baumgarten

Turns Complexity Date First Side
17 4 9th April 1940 Axis

Northern Oslo,30km East of Fornebu Airfield:The prime reason for Oslos importance to the High Command was that Norways capital was the olny port on the southen coast which was capable of handling the logistics of an invading army.Oslo was not to be a bloodless conquest for the Wehrmacht.During the initial stages everything went well for the Germans.Group 5 encountered little resistance and passed the entrance to Oslo Fjord just after midnight on the night of April 8-9.However,the narrows were protected by a system of defenses dominated by the Oscarsborg Fortress. Before the naval column could proceed North, the fortress system had to be taken by ground assault. This delay enabled the Norwegian government to escape North taking Norways gold reserves with them. The battle fought at the narrows had gained the Allies valuable time:This scenario is best played as either Axis or Allied.

On March 21st, 1941 a reinforced battalion of the Australian 18th Brigade struck the southwestern corner of the defensive perimeter and advanced in a blinding sand-storm.

Halfpenny Force

By Dave Blackburn

Turns Complexity Date First Side
12 4 8th August 1944 Allies

Halpenny Force, the steel fist of 4th. Canadian Armoured Division, consisting of Shermans of the Canadian Grenadier Guards and the Lake Superior (Motor) Regt., accompanied by an AT Battery and a squadron of Engineers were all under the command of Lt.Col. W.W. Halpenny. They were to spearhead the Division's advance by "dashing" through the narrow gap (3-500 yards) between the Caen-Falaise highway and railway, bypass 3 villages and exploit to the South. It was an extremely narrow divisional front and...bypassing German held villages in daytime was a much over-rated pastime. Best played against a human opponent, but can be played against the AI, best as Allies. Forces have been reduced to allow fast action. A tip when playing Allies rotate map to advance up the screen.

A Tiny Island in the Desert

By Mike Winkler

Turns Complexity Date First Side
14 4 16th June 1941 Allies

Hill 208, an Oasis deep in the desert south of Sollum: (best played as the Axis) Having succeeded in pushing units of the 15th Panzer Division out of Musaid and capturing Fort Capuzzo on the afternoon of the 15th , the 7th Armored Division in a bold move, waited till dark then detached battle group two, composed of the 7th Armored brigade, equipped with the new Crusader Mark II tank, and a battalion of motor infantry to drive deep into the desert south-west of Sollum and then sweep north into the rear of the 5th Light Division, outflanking and completing the encirclement of Rommel's two armored divisions. Standing in the way of this advance, holding the southern most outpost in the German Sollum line at hill 208, was a lone isolated Oasis Company. For Battle Group II to succeed in the move to out flank the two panzer divisions this mere speck on the map had to fall. Thus on the morning of the 16th the fate of the Afrika Korps hung in the balance as a young lieutenant commanding a force barely larger than a company in strength and a single flak 88 held his little Island in a sea of sand against the might of the 7th Armored Brigade.

The Air Assault landings of the 82 Airborne at Nijmegen during Operation Market-Garden. This actually simulates the first couple of days of the assault. As nothing much happened on the first day. However on the second day the Germans attacked violently with everything they could scrape together. The 82nd managed to hang on until the British XXX Corps showed up but if they had been delayed much longer the 82nd would have suffered the same fate as the British 1st Airborne Division at Arnhem. They where decimated.
