Uelzen und drei RitterkreuzeBy Fred wartenberg
On April 14th 1945, SE of the city Uelzen in the "Lueneburger Heide", was one of the last Tankbattles on the western front. General of the Panzertruppe Karl Decker got the orderwith his XXXIX. Panzerkorps to protect Uelzen and to take Stadesen and Nettelkmp. But his Korps was just only a Regiment and the british troops had the 15. Scots Div. In the morning of April 14th the "Scots Grd" tanks and the "Highlanders" Inf. were moving along the Reichsstrasse 191 to Uelzen. They thought they were safe, but they met the Inf.Div. "Schlageter" and the Pz.Div. "Clausewitz". This Pz.Div. of Generalleutnant Unrein had only some Hetzers. The last chance for Decker was the PzJgAbt. "Grossdeutschland" and the PzGrenBtl "Feldherrnhalle". Decker knew that this battle will be the death for many of his soldiers. He could not get over with this fact so he chose the suicide.***Hope my engl. tranlation is ok...for comments e-mail freduh1d@aol.com or freduh1d@t-online.de *** |
The Rainbow IslandBy Thomas Wulfes
[Best played as Allied] After securing the northern part of Madagascar during Operation Ironclad on May 7th, the Commenwealth troops under the command of Sir William Platt launched Operation Streamline Jane in order to conquer the rest of the "Rainbow Island". The British command feared that the island could get under the control of Germany or Japan (like French Indochina) so that the Axis forces could maintain a submarine base there. On September 10th Operation Streamline Jane started and it lasted until the French supreme commander surrendered on November 9th. |

The Fight for EscargotBy Craig H. Foster
Escargot, 45 km NE of Reims, France: [Hypothetical; Best played as 4 player netgame] Towards the very end of Patton's famous drive across France, the German defenses began to stiffen. More and more frequently newly reconstructed German units raced tired American armored columns for key terrain. On the first day of September the lead elements of 3rd Army's famed "Heck in Big Green Steel Things" Armored Division collided with a kampfgruppe from the crack "Eva Braun" Panzer Division around the key crossroads town of Escargot. As fate would have it, these units were nearly identical in structure, capability and weaponry. This led to perhaps the most evenly matched battle in the Second World War. The Germans knew they were the only troops to go into battle wearing the prestigious "EB" band on their uniform. The Americans knew that as soon as the summer's pursuit battle grounded to a halt, they would have to go back to wearing ties and shaving. For both sides then, a victory at Escargot was essential. |

The Road To AugustaBy Alessandro Gazzi

After the taking of Siracusa, the 17th Brigade of the 5th British Infantry Division sent the 6th Seaforth Highlanders Battalion northwards, to meet the SRS force which was about to attack the lightly defended Italian naval base of Augusta from the sea. A few miles south of the town, it stumbled over a battalion of the Italian "Napoli" Infantry Division, the task of which was to guard the southern approach to Augusta and to oppose a possible landing. The Italian force even counterattacked but it finally had to withdraw to avoid destruction. |
Armoured AllianceBy Steven G
With the onset of snow in Belgium and plans for Operaton Market Garden drawing nearer the Anglo-American commanders put together a plan to drive out what forces remain in Belguim. With all air cover grounded due to worsening weather the allies plans were to smash their way through using mass armour and infantry in close support. In an attempt to cease the bridgeheads arond the town of Westerlo the allies gamble to drop a small number of paratroopers to clear a way through for the armour and infantry. Hitler being informed by his intellegence of mass waves of armour and infantry sweeping through Belgium towards the town of Westerlo, he realises that the allies must not capture the town as his forces would be cut in two. Hitler needing to stop the advance puts together a new division to smash the allied force.....the 1st Armoured Anti-Tank Division. The armoured allience commanders were not expecting this! |
