Aims: While the band attends all kinds of functions and engagements its main aim is as a competition band. The band is no political and non sectarian and welcomes visitors at the band room in Cashel where a hearty Cead Mile Failte (A Hundred Thousand Welcomes) will be extend to all.

History: The Dr O'Hurley Pipe Band was founded in 1935 under the instruction of Mr Denis O'Mahony. 

Awards

The band was name after Archbishop Dermot O'Hurley who was born at Emly, County Tipperary in the year 1530. Archbishop O'Hurley travelled abroad as a young man and following a distinguished career at Louvain and Rheims, he arrived in Rome in 1581 and was appointed Archbishop of Cashel  on September 11th 1581 by Pope Gregory XIII.

In the summer of 1583 the new Archbishop of Cashel arrived secretly in Ireland but he was never to reached Cashel as he was recognised and arrested at Slane Castle. He was taken to Dublin Castle where he was imprisoned and repeatedly interrogated by means of torture but he still refused to taken the Oath of Supremacy. Archbishop O'Hurley was hanged on Hoggin Green, near St Stephens Green on 20th June 1584 and is buried at St Kevins church outside the walls of Dublin.

Practice: The Dr O'Hurley Pipe Band has its own bandrooms at Gashouse Lane, Cashel and practice is held regularly on Tuesday and Thursday nights. For more information about joining the band contact us.

Competitions and Performances: The Dr O'Hurley Pipe Band regularly takes part in many contest in Ireland, Northern Ireland and Scotland. The band has also taken part in many festivals in Europe (Confolons, France and La Coruna, Spain) and at St Patrick's day parades in London, Manchester and Birmingham  - to see a list of competitions we have won to date, visit our awards page.
