2003/04 Cork Table Tennis Association Schools League
The Cork Schools League and Cup are coming to the concluding stages, having begun in October last year. The League was played out in five divisions with twenty six teams taking part. In Division 1 Colaiste Choilm, Ballincollig are the only unbeaten side and will take this title for the second year in a row from Ballincollig Community School in second place. In Division 2 the winners are Midleton A, who were also unbeaten in this Division from St Angelas College A in second place. In Division 3 the winners are Colaiste Choilm C in a very close competition with Scoil Eoin A, Ballincollig in second place. Just one point separated the two teams of 1st years from Colaiste Choilm and 6th years from Scoil Eoin Primary School. These boys know each other very will as the Colaiste boys are past pupils of Scoil Eoin Primary so the rivalry here is intense and indeed the competitiveness of the games meant many went to five sets. In Division 4 Midleton College C again came out on top from Scoil Eoin C in 2nd place. The winner of Division 5 is yet to be resolved as Ursuline College and Midleton D are on equal points, with Ursuline the favourites to win out. In Division 6 Midleton College E were the winners from St Angelas E in this beginners division.
The Finals of the Schools Cup are scheduled for North Mon on Thurs 1st April at 2.30. In the Div 1 & 2 Cup Colaiste Choilm will defend their title against Midleton A. In the Div 3 & 4 Cup Scoil Eoin will renew their rivalry by taking on Colaiste Choilm C in an All-Ballincollig Final and in Div 5 & 6 Ursuline will take on Midleton

Cork Landslide at All Ireland Schools
Munster walked away with all six titles at the All Ireland Schools Championships. This was not the first time that Munster have totally dominated the event winning six in 2000 and five titles in 2001 with North Monastery Cork taking 3 boys titles and St.Angelas College, Cork, taking 3 girls titles. This year however there were five different schools representing Munster and all from Cork County. Bandon Grammar were the surprise debutantes beating St.Angelas in the Munster U13 Girls finals they went on to win the All Ireland title at their very first attempt. St. Angelas did retain the U15 Girls as well as the U19 Girls for the sixth win in succession. Scoil Eoin, Ballincollig, took their first ever All Ireland title having narrowly missed out on a number of previous occasions. Colaiste Choilm, Ballincollig have won an U13 title previously but this was there first ever U15 title. The North Monastery who have one of the best records at All Ireland level took the U19 title for the fifth time in succession beating St. Aidan's CBS Whitehall in an exciting final. North Monastery Coach Con Higgins was presented with an award from Irish Schools Association for his tremendous contribution to this area of the sport. Con Higgins won a number of titles with schools in Limerick before moving to Cork and repeating his record at the North Monastery School where he is currently principle. North Monastery recently captured the Mainport Cork Schools League for a remarkable 9th successive year.

Choilm for the 3rd time this season with Col. Choilm seeking their 1st victory. With Con higgins at the school's confirmation, David O Rourke coached the mon boys to a3-2 victory. Jonny McCarthy defeated Eoin McNally 11-1,11-4, 13-15,11-4.P.J. Hurley lt to Mike Spitere 11-8,7-11,11-7,8-11,9-11. Chairman Michael Healy presented the trophy to a jubilant Jonny McCarthy.
MAINPORT TOP TABLE TENNIS CLASH
Top of the table North Monastery School took on second place Colaiste Choilm in the Division 1 of the Mainport Schools League. North Monastery have an extraordinary record within the Cork and Irish Schools competitions and are currently All Ireland Senior Schools Champions while Colaiste Choilm will be defending their U15 all Ireland Title.
Colaiste Choilm took first blood as 2002 West Cork Open Champion Mike Spitere took on James Mulcahy. The match described as a cliff-hanger by North Mon. coach Con Higgins.
"Every set went to the wire with scores of 14/12 and 13/15. It was a great battle between two players in top form. Spitere finally won it in the fifth set."
Paul O'Donovan from North Mon returning from an appendix operation showed that he has fully recovered beat Eoin McNally to bring the match back to level. Munster No.1 Killian Healy playing for Colaiste Choilm played David Cummins in the third match and Colaiste Choilm took back the lead. Jonathan McCarthy brought North Mon. back to level again beating Eoin Hegarty leaving it 2 - 2 and two doubles to play. McCarthy and O'Donovan put North Mon. into the lead for the first time against Hegarty and McNally. Spitere and Healy managed a good win against Cummins and Mulcahy to finish the match all square.
The battle for the top of Division 1 is still not over but North Mon. coach Con Higgins feels confident that the Mainport Cork Schools League title will return once again to the school. North Mon. were in action again against the girls of St.Angelas and in very impressive form. Irish U17 No.1 Linda O'Sullivan was unlucky to be drawn against North Mon. no.1 Jonathan McCarthy and was unable to secure any points for St.Angelas. Rachel O'Connor had a very narrow defeat against David Cummins that went very close in every set but Cummins came out the eventual winner 3-2. The North Mon. secured all 6 points and brings them even closer to winning the title.
