UCG Kayak
Club, National University of Ireland, Galway.
UCG Kayak Club was founded in 1977 and has become the largest University Kayak Club in Ireland. We have over 50 kayaks, of various types and many members have their own. We take part in the annual Intervarsities and have been awarded the trophy thirteen times in the last fourteen years. For a more detailed history of UCG Kayak Club click here. |
UCG Kayak Club aims are
to introduce everyone to the sport of kayaking. We begin every year
with daily practise sessions for new members A few weeks later our first
big whitewater trip to the legendary place
of Kerry takes place.
Throughout the year, we run river and surf trips for the more advanced members. The places we go include Galway, Mayo, Clare, Wicklow, Limerick and Kerry. In the past the club has also run trips to Wales and in 1997 we visited the Holme Pierre Slalom Course in Notttingham. Most trips take place over a day, with many others taking place over an entire weekend. Most people who join the club are complete beginners with absolutely no previous experience. So come along and join what we think is the best club in UCG ! The club is run by the Committee which is elected every March/April at the AGM. It is funded by the University and by club membership fees. |
