Ladies Football Notes

Ladies Football Minor Shield Final (19/11/206)
Pearses 4-7 St Dominics 1-8

Pearses Minor Ladies had a good win over St Dominics in the final of the Minor Shield Competition in Oran on Sunday last. Although the conditions were atrocious both teams served up a good quality game of football. Pearses played against the wind in the first half and took the game to their opponents. Ashling Curley led the team from goal and her kickouts were both accurate and long against the wind. With Emma Ryan, Helen Kenny and Katie Moran marking very tightly St Dominics were mostly relying on frees to get their scores although they had an excellently taken goal by Susan Spillane after 10 minutes. In midfield Lisa Mannion and Carmel Killeen worked tirelessly and supplied good ball to the forward line. Up front Jennifer
Downey, Deirdre Sweeney and Elizabeth Daly got some crucial scores and by half time Pearses had built up a slender lead of 3-3 to 1-6. In the second half, although playing against a strong gale St Dominics really took the game to Pearses. A splendid Deirdre Sweeney goal after 10 minutes of the second half appeared to re-settle the team. Pearses introduced Christina Dolan, Aoife McDonnell, Sinead Raftery and Kelly Fitzgibbon and their work rate with some excellent defending by Deirdre Sweeney kept St Dominics at bay. Pearses were guilty of some wayward shooting in the second half which could have been costly but tagged on another 3 points before the finish to secure a victory. When the final whistle sounded there was joy for Pearses and their first underage Ladies football title in about 8 years. This is a great boost for ladies football in the club and full credit to their team of mentors, manager Padraig Kelly, selectors Teresa Fitzgibbon, Eilish Daly, Olivia Keogh and to Stephanie Carty and Eilish Kelly who also helped out with the team. After the game, Margaret McCann County Board Secretary presented the Shield to a jubilant Carmel Killeen and Charmaine Cooney fixtures Secretary presented the player of the match award to Jennifer Downey. The team would like to thank the caterers Mary and Donal Egan for the splendid meal supplied afterwards.

Ladies Minor Football Shield Semi-Final (12/11/06):

Pearses 4-10 Kilmore 2-8:
Pearses Minor Ladies had a good win over Kilmore in the semi-final of the
Minor Shield Competition in Oran on Sunday last. Pearses opened the game
strongly and had some good scores from Deirdre Sweeney and Jennifer Downey.
Pearses were playing with the wind and built up a good lead before half
time. Some excellent defending in that half by Katie Moran and Carmel
Killeen combined with some fine saves by Ashling Curley kept the Kilmore
scoring to a minimum. At half time Pearses led 4-7 to 1-4.
Playing into a stiff wind in the second half Pearses had to work hard to
keep ahead of the opposition. Lisa Mannion covered a lot of ground helping
out the defence from her midfield spot. All of the subs introduced
contributed to the effort and Pearses were happy to come away with a victory
on the scoreline 4-10 to 2-8. This was a very good team performance and
Pearses now play St Dominics in the final which will be played on Sat/Sun
next.
Your support for the team in the final wouldbe appreciated.
