Minor Football League Final:Pearses 2-13 St Ciaráns 0-7

Congratulations to the Sean Hogarty sponsored Minor Footballers as they added the League title to their recent championship win with victory over a brave St Ciaran’s team in Ballyforan last Saturday evening. Pearse’s started well with an Alan Duffy point, but Ciaran’s took the lead with 2 well taken scores, this was as good as it got for Ciarans however as Pearses dominated the rest of the half, points from Duffy, Emmet Kelly and substitute Tomás Sweeney were followed by a Sean Ryan goal who finished well after a pass from his brother Eana. Further points from Aaron Fehilly(45), Emmett Kelly and two frees from Eana Ryan left the half-time score Pearses 1-8 Ciarans 0-3.

A more determined Ciarans took the field for the second half but it was Alan Duffy who scored the all important first score, Ciarans pulled one back but Duffy again kept Pearses ahead with his fourth point, both sides exchanged points after that with Pearses scores coming from two further frees from Eana Ryan and a Sean Ryan point before Emmett Kelly rounded of a fine team display with a well taken goal to leave the final score Pearses 2-13 Ciarans 0-7. This was another superb all round performance from Ollie Dooley’s charges with great displays throughout the team, who rounded of the season with a fine double.

Padraig Pearses Minor Football Champions

Pearses 2-6 St Ciaráns 0-7

All members of Padraig Pearses GAA club would like to congratulate the Sean Hogarty sponsored Minor Footballers after their magnificent performance in overcoming a brave St Ciaran’s team in last Sunday’s Final in Hyde Park. Pearse’s started well with an Eana Ryan point, Ciaran’s equalised shortly after but then Pearse’s got their first goal in the 6th minute when after good work from John Landy, Alan Duffy was fouled and Jason Clogher coolly slotted home the resultant penalty. Despite having the majority of possession Pearses failed to score in the remainder of the half and two further Ciaran’s points left the minimum between the sides at half-time 1-1 to 0-3.

Alan Duffy scored a fine point at the start of the second half, Ciaran’s responded with a free but a point from Emmett Kelly and an Aaron Fehilly 45 edged Pearses 3 points clear. Another Ciarans free made it 1-4 to 0-5, but then came the moment that turned the match Alan Duffy fisted the ball to the net after a great save from Ciaran’s keeper Robert Kilcommons who also made three other top class saves during the game. Further points from Alan Duffy and Eana Ryan eased Pearses into an unassailable seven point lead and despite a late rally from Ciarans which yielded two points, Pearses excellent defence held firm. This was a great all round team display with many fine performances throughout. Congratulations also to the management team led by Ollie Dooley, selectors and trainers were Noel Farrell, John Kelly, Niall Murray, and Jimmy Hardiman. Well done to all involved. The team was:

David Burns, Cathal Dolphin, Alan Naughton, Shane Mulvey, Kealan Daly, Niall Carty(c), Niall Daly, Jason Clogher (1-0 penalty), Aaron Fehilly(0-1 45), Emmet Kellly(0-1), Alan Duffy(1-2), Shane Naughton, Sean Ryan, Eanna Ryan(0-2 1f), John Landy. Subs used Mossy Sweeney.

Rest of the panel: Aiden Kenny, Conor Downey, Jason Murray, Stephen McManus, Jamie Kelly, Damien Fallon, Kieran O’Shea, James Kelly, Colm Egan, Eamon Donoghue, Aaron Clogher, and Eoghan Clogher,

U-12 Football Championship Final: Pearses 2-2  Strokestown 2-9

The John Naughton sponsored U-12 Footballers put in a brave performance when losing to a strong Strokestown team in Hyde Park last Saturday evening. The club would like to thank all involved especially the management team of David Kenny and Pat Kelly.

Ladies Senior County Final St Brigid's 2-12 Pearses 1-02

The Oliver Brooks sponsored senior team were comprehensively beaten by a stronger St Brigids’s team in Knockcrokery on Saturday. There is no doubt that on the day the victors were the better team but the final score line bears no reflection on the competitiveness of the game for long periods. In the end St Brigid’s ability to get scores from distance combined with two opportunist goals proved the main difference between the two teams.

Pearses scored early with a Stephanie Carty free following a foul on Deidre Sweeney but Brigid’s dominated the rest of the half scoring 1-08 without reply, the goal a shot from Aine O’Brien that crept in under the crossbar. While the game was effectively over at half time the Pearses ladies brought the game to Brigid’s for long periods in the second half and deserved more for their efforts than the goal and point scored by Elish Finneran. Brigid’s scored their second goal with five minutes remaining and knocked over three points in the final minutes as the efforts of the Pearses ladies for the first 25 minutes of the half began to have their effect. Referee Vivian Hardiman, who had a fine game, blew the full time whistle and Michelle Walsh collected the cup on behalf of her team and Aine O’Brien deservedly received the player of the match award.

On the day every Pearses player including the subs introduced contributed and their commitment to the match even when the game was lost is a trait that is commendable and something which can’t be trained. The panel is in transition but there was enough evidence on Saturday that, if this squad remains together they have the potential to challenge for honours again in the next few years. Well done to Padraig Kelly and his management team.

The club would also like to thank Mary Sweeney & all the catering committee for the excellent meals provided after all the matches this weekend.

Ladies Senior Football Final: Pearses v St Brigids

The Oliver Brooks Carpentry sponsored ladies football team play St Brigid’s in the senior county final next Saturday the 29th September in St Dominick’s GAA grounds, Knockcrokery at 4pm.

Pearses will enter the game as underdogs as Brigid’s are going for their third consecutive title, having previously won the All Ireland Intermediate title. In the most recent meeting between the teams played in August St Brigid’s won the league final on a score line of 2-14 to 3-6. However Pearses talismatic forward Jennifer Downey, who scored two goals in that game, injured her knee in the semi final win over Clan Na Gael and is a definite absentee for the final. Indeed the club would like to wish Jennifer a speedy return from injury. The team has changed substantially from that which lost the final last year having lost a number of experienced players and now features a number of young players who have not played in a final before. We would therefore ask that every club member, including players, make an effort to attend the game on Saturday and offer their support.

Ladies Senior Football Championship: Pearses 3-4 Clan na Gael 0-6
Congratulations to Pearses Ladies Senior Football team who qualified for this years championship final with over victory over Clan na Gael in Cloneen last Saturday evening. Pearses got off to a great start and were two goals ahead after only four minutes, the game was very even after that but Pearses held on for a fine victory.

Minor Football Championship Semi-Final: Pearses 0-9 Castlerea 0-6.
Congratulations to Pearses Minor Footballers who qualified for the Final of the championship with a hard fought win over a resilient Castlerea side last Saturday in Oran. Minor Football Championship Quarter-Final: Pearses 2-14 Elphin 2-7.
Pearses Minor Footballers qualified for the Semi-Final of the championship with a win over last years Champions Elphin in Pairc an Phiarsaigh last Monday. Pearses started well and with the aid of a strong breeze and with Eana Ryan to the fore led by ten points at half time 1-11 to 1-1. Elphin showed the battling qualities which had served them so well in last years campaign and reduced the deficit to five points at one stage 1-13 to 2-5 but Pearses rose to the challenge and with Niall Carty to the fore sealed the game when Eanna Ryan got their second goal to ease Pearses through to the Semi-Finals.

A.C.C. League U.10 Football A Final: Pearses 3-9 Clan na Gael 0-3.
Pádraig Pearses U10 footballers had a comprehensive victory over a gallant Clan na Gael team on Monday night last in the A.C.C .League final.
Earlier, Pearses had victories over Mountbellew, Ballinasloe, and Caltra. Pearses had a terrific start with scores coming from the boot of Conor Payne, Lorcan Daly and Hubert Darcy. The early scores made it difficult for Clan na gael to get on terms with Pearses. Victory was achieved by an all round team performance as every player from one to fifteen played very well. The Pearses’ players put in a great effort throughout the year and deserved their win. Pearses team: Séan ó Murchú Flynn, Eoin Costello, Mark Richardson, Kelvin Kelly, Dylan Johnston, Glen Kelly, Eoin Galvin, Jake Curley, Conor Payne, Daniel Glynn, Donnchadh Reilly, Aaron Johnston, Lorcan Daly, Hubert Darcy, Mark Ward. Sub: Karl Fehilly for Mark Ward.
Great credit is due to Gerry Shine, Tony flannery, and Anthony Forde for organising the league and to referee Joey Connaughton who did a great job on the night. In the second game Pearses young talent also put in a good performance. Players involved were Michael Curley, Conor Keane, Thomas Richardson, Dylan Wallace, Mark Bergin, Sam Parker, David Kenny, Mark Haynes, Michael Burnell, Barry Finn, Jaimie Curley, Karl Fehilly, Jason Kenny, David Tumulty, Gabriel finneran, and Shane Downey.

Minor Football Champions 1982:
The club is to hold a 25th anniversary on Saturday night 20th October for the County Minor Football Champions of 1982 where a slightly greyer, rounder and wiser(well maybe) version of the team will meet to discuss, embellish and remember great deeds from that memorable day back in 1982 when Pearses defeated Castlerea by 0-7 to 1-3.
For further information contact Ronnie Dooley on 087 7767448, Seamus Clogher 087 1258849 or Rory Curley at 087 6476200.

Lotto numbers for Sunday 16th September : 1,2,9,10.
Their was no outright winner,
Their was match 2 match 3 winners: Robert Hardiman and Vincent Walsh.
Next week’s Jackpot is €8,000.

Feile Peil nOg (U-14) Final: Pearses 2-4 Clane (Kildare) 1-8:

Pearses U-14’s put up a courageous display against a highly fancied Clane side in Carrick-on-Shannon last Sunday. A much physically stronger Clane team containing 10 County players who had strolled through the earlier rounds with little resistance settled early and knocked over the first four points. It took ten minutes before Shane Carty opened Pearses account and he added another just before the break to leave the score at half-time 0-4 to 0-2. The second half was two minutes old when Thomas Ryan slid home a well taken goal and this was followed a minute later by a Shane Carty goal that flew into the top corner from twenty yards out. Clane came back and scored a fine goal to leave the minimum between them, then the crucial moment came, a penalty was awarded to Pearses and although it was well struck by Shane Carty, the Clane goalkeeper (a premiership soccer trialist) managed to somehow divert it onto the post, however Thomas Ryan subsequently tapped over the rebound to leave the score 2.-3 to 1-4. Pearses had been involved in three tough games the day before and this began to tell as Clane finished strongly and scored three points to take the lead only for Shane Carty to send the game into extra time with a coolly taken free. The first period of extra time stayed scoreless but Clane got the crucial score in the second period to deny a courageous Pearses team.

Other results were: 1st round:  Baileboro 1-0 Pearses 1-6; Pearses 3-6 Clan na Gael 3-2 (Clan were leading by 3-1 to 0-1 at one stage);Pearses 0-3 Portlaois 2-1, Pearses won a three way penalty shoot-out. Semi-Final Pearses 1-6 Swinford 1-4.

On a side note Pearses hosted Baileboro for the weekend and despite the fact that we eliminated them from the competition, they travelled to both the Semi-Finals and Final and gave us great support.

Pearses team was David Whelan, Gerard Egan, Ronan Kildea, Kevin Gavin, Shane Naughton, Conor Daly, Paul Naughton, Enda.Kelly , Shane Carty (1-3), David Murray, Aidan Mannion, Cormac Clogher, Darren Green,  Andrew Phelan, Tomás Ryan(1-1), Subs: Kyle Fehilly, Shane O’Rourke, Patrick Cogavin, Conor Fallon, Aidan Ward, Andrew Hussey, Owen Glennon, Niall Sweeney, Ian Curley and Paul Dolan.

Padraig Pearses retained the Leo Kenny cup with a fine display last Sunday in Hyde Park.
