Transition Year

After completing their Junior Certificate, students take Transition Year. This Programme provides the students with enriched opportunities for personal development, with emphasis on work experience, practical training, and self-enhancement rather than concentrated academic achievement.

The core subjects taken are:

  • Irish
  • English
  • French
  • Mathematics
  • Information Technology
  • Desk Top Publishing
  • First Aid
  • Public Speaking
  • Physical Education
  • Religion
  • Media Studies
  • SPHE
  • Personal Development
  • CORD

The options this year are:

  • Art or German or Motor Car Mechanics or Agricultural Science
  • Architectural Studies or Biotechnology or Marketing Studies
  • Chemistry or History or Construction Studies or Technical Drawing
  • Digital Electronics or Media Studies or Environmental Studies or Applied Maths
  • Physics or Biology or Economics or Construction Studies
  • Accounting or Technical Drawing or Geography or Physics

Transition Year Coordinators are Mr John Tierney, Mr Denis Dunlea, Miss Àine O'Carroll and Mr Arthur Murphy.

 

Work experience

The Transition Years are due to go out on work experience after the October mid-term break.
