THE DOWNS G.A.A. NOTES
A.C.L Division 1
The Downs 0 - 9 Tyrrellspass 1 - 6
Our Seniors played Tyrrellspass in the 2nd round of the League on Tuesday night last.
This was a game of mixed fortunes for the Downs. It was a game we should have won but in the end was glad to settle for the draw.
Early on in the game, we failed to convert some of the chances created. Tyrrellspass broke down the field to score a goal to go into a four point lead. The Downs however, fought back to trail 1 – 4 to 0 – 5 at the break. Tyrrellspass again took the initiative to go into a four point lead for the second time in the game. The Downs fought back again to level matters with five minutes left in the game. The was some positive points which can be taken into the forthcoming championship campaign.
Team: Ciaran McCormack, Pat Doherty, Sean O’Leary, Stephen Cleary, Darren Devine, Fergal Fagan, Sean Loughlin, Noel Molloy, Joe Corroon, Enda Feaney, Thomas Cleary, Shane Deering, Conor Carley, Keith Shanley, Michael Murtagh. Sub: James Conroy.
Under 14 League
The Downs 0 - 4 St Lomans 2 - 8
The Under 14 team got their League Campaign underway against a strong St Lomans outfit. Playing with great heart and determination throughout, we struggled to cope with the strength and scoring power of the Lomans team. With the heart on display, we would be confident of gaining a victory in our next day out.
Team: Brendan Cleary, Mark Dalton, Philip Smith, Camine Keegan, William Newman, Michael Ward, Alan Raleigh, Stephen Devine, Greg Crowley, Niall Nolan, Eugene McCormack, Darren Price, David Flynn, Darren Loughrey, Joe Raleigh. Subs: Colm Rowan, Niall Poynton, Danny Poynton, Darren Skelly.
Under 12 League
The Downs 2 - 9 St Lomans 4 - 7
The Under 12 team also got their League Campaign underway last week and were unfortunate to go under to St Lomans by four points. In a high scoring game, the concession of four goals proved our undoing but we showed great spirit to come back every time a goal was scored. Despite losing, we can take great heart from the performance.
