THE DOWNS G.A.A. NOTES

A.C.L Division 1

The Downs 3 - 6 Moate 1 - 9

We gained our second win of the current League Campaign in The Downs on Saturday night last. Playing the better football early on, we fell behind to a Moate goal. The Downs fought back to level matters and take a two-point lead. Both teams held the initiative at various stages of the first half with the sides going in level at the break 2 – 3 to 1 – 6.

Both teams swopped points early in the second half before The Downs scored their third goal to take a three point lead which they never relinquished. The final few minutes was played at championship pace and it was encouraging to see the team finish strongly as we prepare for the forthcoming championship game against Castledaly.

Team: Ciaran McCormack, Pat Doherty, Sean O’Leary, Darren Devine, Seamus O’Leary, Sean Loughlin, Noel Molloy, Joe Corroon, Shane Deering, Martin Murtagh, Enda Feeney, Keith Shanley, Thomas Cleary, Michael Murtagh. Sub: Fergal Fagan.

A.C.L. Division 5

The Downs 3 - 4 St Lomans 1 - 15

Our third team, short a few regulars suffered their first league defeat in St Lomans on Tuesday night last. Playing against the wind in the first half, the seeds of defeat were sown when we let St Lomans score freely while failing to convert the scoring chances created. We trailed 1 – 0 to 0 – 12 at half-time. On resumption of play, The Downs improved to cut the lead down to four points, but lost the initiative to conceed six points without reply. The Downs finished the stronger but could not haul back the St Lomans lead.

Team: Senan Maguire, Karl Gaye, Paul Rowan, Anthony Corroon, Paul Shanley, Sean Conneely, Tommy Smith, Mark Leavy, Ronan Colgan, Martin Egerton, Brian Wright, Mark Monaghan, Matt McGuire, Kieran Carroll, J P Monaghan.

Minor League

The Downs 0 - 6 Bunbrosna 1 - 15

Our Minors got their League campaign off the ground in The Downs on Friday last, but had to give way to a better balanced Bunbrosna side. The scoreline did not reflect the work put in by the team on the night and hopefully we will get our first win in our next outing.
