Fairview Residents' Association aims to maintain and safeguard the interests of the people of the Fairview area in respect of their holdings, improve conditions and general amenities within the community and to build up a community spirit.
The Residents' Association wants to develop the area in a way that maximises its residential character by protecting and improving the natural man-made and cultural environment in a sensitive and caring way.
We are sitting on the Casino Millennium Association with neighbouring residents' groups, which is considering how best we can celebrate the arrival of the year 2000. All ideas are welcome. Activities to date included a children's art competition organised by the FRA.
The Association monitors all planning applications in
the area, so to assist in maintaining the character and integrity of houses
and businesses in the Fairview district. This includes looking at proposed
developments which impact on Fairview, whether they are directly in the
area or not. Examples include parking and traffic, the DPT and public transport.
A large, 4 block apartment development with underground car parking has been proposed for a site at the top of Richmond Avenue. This will also have a direct impact on Richmond Estate as well as Inverness Road, Melrose Avenue, Waverley Avenue and Lomond Avenue due to the proposed vehicle and pedestrian exits to the bottom of Inverness Road. In addition this will have an indirect impact on the whole Fairview area. The FRA isorganising a campaign against this proposed development. We have formally objected to Dublin Corporation against the proposal. We held a public meeting on the development in August after which I issued a statement. This got some coverage in the Northside People.
In 1995, the Association issued a report on Traffic in Fairview, containing detailed analysis and recommendations on the situation. We also commented on the Corporation's plans for traffic calming in Fairview & Marino.
Up to recently the FRA have acted on the defense, reacting to planning applications, DPT etc. Now we want to be pro-active. This started with our Traffic report and was followed by a Crime Survey. Now work has started on an environmental strategy - Fairview 2005.
We now seek to draw up a detailed plan and to get it implemented, either
by doing it ourselves, going into partnership or lobbying other organisations.
We want to achieve a high quality environment and maintain our neighbourhoods.
You can help us as either a local business or as a resident.
The DPT was initially rejected at the Association's 1994 AGM. It was subsequently rejected at its 1995 AGM in the “Traffic in Fairview” report and this was confirmed at the 1996 AGM. Objection letters were sent in 1997 - 80% of Fairview objected but this was ignored. The FRA entered into cooperation with other groups via Combined Residents’ Association & Santry Community Association. We sought places on Corporation study visits but this was refused. Dublin Corporation passed the DPT with 2 changes: it will run deeper under Marino and the northern portal will be nearer Dublin airport.

We object to the DPT because:
